As we approach Ihe closing of Oakton High ' s first year, I can imagine that these might be the thoughts of the student body. Is it possible that the year is almost over? It seems that only yesterday we rode the victory bus to the first football game, bought our first lunch in the cafeteria, finally got a lock on our lockers, were late to class because we couldn ' t find the room, enjoyed the first program by the music department, anticipated our first computer-made report card, laughed at our nameless school newspaper, voted for all those student government and class officers, danced at the first dance, studied health for twelve straight weeks, bought an Oakton notebook and a Cougar sweater, finally found out what CEEC was, visited an art exhibit in the art department, rejoiced at the first snow day, and froze while the heating plant was repaired. Can it be that this year has passed so quickly? There is another feeling that each member of the student body should take with him for the future. That feeling is one of pride. Pride in having met the challenge of opening a new high school. Pride in having created a school where only wood, mortar, bricks and glass existed before. Pride in the high standards and fine traditions estab¬ lished by the original student body. Cakton High is now a fine school. T. Page Johnson Principal 14
