Tolewold . . . The Senior class of the Oakridge High School is publishing this annual as a chronicle of the events of the school year of 1939-1940. May it serve as a pleasant remembrance of these school days in the years to come. We have selected as our theme for this book the new Willamette highway, be- cause we feel that its construction is repre- sentative of the progress that is being made in America today along the lines of commerce and education. This highway is a forward step in the development of the West and will open to tourists the natural beauties of this part of Oregon. On the better highways of the future the American people will travel—in the im- proved schools of the future the youth of our nation will learn to be better Americans. 2
