Some Candid Shots Little wonder that Mr. lwfagenseil cap- tures the interest of the freshmen for he teaches General Science and American His- tory, two of the favorite subjects at O.H.S. licsides his regular classes, Mr. Xvagenseil directs the Science clubs and the band, an activity new this year at O.H.S. The faculty members in this picture rep- resent two widely separated departments. Miss Sackter and Miss Shellaby accent the practical side of education, for they pre- pare students for the business world. On the other hand, Miss Barber represents the Latin department, which is not so prac- tical, but certainly as benelicial. Although their subjects are widely separated, this trio of instructors make their courses iden- tical in at least one respect, that of interest to the student. lVhile l'insti looks on, her elcves study the Adventures of M. Pe-rrichon, the never-dying classic of French II. French is one of the few subjects in which fun can be combined with study, and Oak- mont French students fully appreciate this fact. Miss McNall also directs t'Le Cercle, which is a great success if you use as an indication the Cris which come from 101 while a meeting is in progress. Providing sophomores, juniors and sen- iors with mathematical food for thought is a favorite pastime for Miss Ray. Through her efforts mathematics has become- a most entertaining subject. The Math Club, which she sponsors, is a major factor in helping her to change the aspect of this subject. Miss Ray also directs the Girl Reserves, one of the largest and newest organization in school. Another of her activities is toy mission , which is the school's leading hu- manitarian project. i l

A Message to O. H. S .... To you high school students the future has a fascinating appeal. You look forward to it with eagerness and expectation. lt is the time when you will be doing your share- of the world's work, when your plans, hopes and dreams are to come true. And, as you think of it, I wonder if you fully realize the part your high school days play in this future. VVhat a short but very important period your high school course cov- ers! It is the time when you should find yourselves in the sense that you should be conscious of and develop your interests, aptitudes and capac- ities. You should learn that you must live not only as individuals but also as members of a larger group called so- ciety and that its welfare is your wel- fare. Your study of science should VV. L. Rlzrrz, High- School Prinriffnl M . enable you to understand better the world in which you live. In short, high school days should be opportunity days. They should challenge you to do your best in order that you may be your best. NV. L. Rrzrrz, High. School Principal. The Tables Are Turned At a get-acquainted party the male con- tingent of the O.H.S. faculty proved that they know more about cooking than can be learned with a can opener. Nothing more could have been desired than the charm- ing costuming, splendid ' food, and most skillful serving in evidence at this delight- ful social gathering. b 11 effn unusual sight in the kitchen of the :Domestic Science Department

of Our Faculty Miss Moot takes a few of her precious spare moments to demonstrate the radio phonograph, a new addition to the music department. Our music instructor has not had many such moments of leisure this year. Aside from her regular duty of changing the voices of our students to light, clear headtones, and of getting more than squeaks from the orchestra, she has had the added responsibility of preparing for the Music Festival in Ianuary. However, the visitors and we, her pupils, thought her an excellent hostess and all thoroughly en- joyed the event. lVay down in Room 3, amid the assorted drawings of her students, dwells our art teacher. The-re is scarcely a project or an activity started in 0.1-IS. to which this friendly and willing teacher does not lend a hand. VVhether for plays, scenery, appli- cation of makeup, dances, parties, posters or decorations, she is on the- jobf, Her classes are always interesting, a11d the Art Club is thriving. Nevertheless, in spite of all her activity, she is ever ready to give help or advice. Under the tutelage of Miss Hammon, our domestic science students learn the gentler arts. The part which the girls en- joy most is eating what they cools. Can't you sec the anticipatory gleam in the eyes of these girls as they await the results of their efforts! Meanwhile they wash dishes, although this work doesn't conform to their ideas of fun. Under the able direction of Mr. Porter, Oakmont boys learn the rudiments of car- pentry and how to handle tools. In addi- tion, Mechanical Drawing, which is part of the Manual Training course, proves help- ful to many aspiring engineers. The useful projects made by the students make the course one of the most practical open to O.H.S. students. MARY E. Moor, B.S. EIELEN E. xN11Il'1'l2, AB. HELEN M. Harmon, B.S. GEORGE D.
