The co- operation has been outstanding, and the efforts have been rewarding. We hope you will enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you. Editor The Senior Class dedicates the 1968 YEARBOOK to Mrs. Essie P. Roden. In grati- tude for her work and help as a Senior Sponsor for twenty-nine years and especially with appreciation for all she has done for our Senior Class, we try to bestow to her a part of the honor which she so rightfully deserves. Our Senior Class and all classes before us, just say Thank You, Mrs. Roden, for your love and guidance. n lit. -fWNi Editor Sandra Hill Waid Annual Co -Editor Mary Ann Uptain Staff Business Manager Phillip Jean Sponsor Mrs. Roden try Annual Staff Photo Editor Linette Black - Feature Editor Brenda Gurganus Org. May I remind you that you ar e not completing your education come gradua- tion; you are only beginning to learn, for the span of our lives is a short period of time in which we continually learn. Think now where you would like to be twenty years hence; begin to work and study to achieve that goal; let nothing interfere with your aim in life. Remember to always be considerate of the other person--be a kind, loyal, and true friend. Pattern your life by the Golden Rule and place your trust in Him who rules not only our lives but the entire universe. Then let come what may, you will be anchored to that which is everlasting and eternal. I offer my congratulations and best wishes to each of you. Very sincerely yours, (UJtt Robert E. Cunningham Superintendent Dear Seniors: May, 1968, will always have a special place in your life, and I am very proud that I had a little part of this memorable occasion. One of the Senior Boys let me read something that says much better than I what I would like to share with you in this message: Losers spend their lives thinking about what they ' re going to do Winners, on the other hand, are not afraid to savor the present, to unpack their books and listen to the birds sing. Losers say but and if only. Winners are enlightened people who grow rich, healthy, happy, strong, wise and brave using just three words in life: Yes, No, and Wow ! Wow ! is just to express the healthy childlike wonder in all of us. --Life Sincerely, •ffuJ Aj $ 5 2 Hub Dotson Contents ] 1 Foreword Dedication Faculty Seniors Who ' s Who Juniors Features Athletics Organizations Advertising FACULTY f f JO ANN THOMPSON Walker Junior University of Ala. The entire Wildcat te- am received praise fr- om Coach Hosea Collins. It was the best team effort I have seen, as long as I have been at Oakman. The kids play- ed as a well trained un It, and I am certainly proud of them. Our center Ronald Sa- naln did a real fine Job for us. Randy Woods did a great job of offensive blocking. Barry LoUar a senior defensive end pl- ayed his best. And how could you leave out qu« anerback Larry Hood Larry threw the ball re« si well under pressure. Bobby Pugh and CrIm Sanain did a fine Job for us. It is the best I have seen Crlm run since he has been playing foot- ball. It would seem like the Wildcats are on their way to another Walker-Wins i| ton County Championship They are undefeated In the league. Addison of Sln ston County is another of the undefeated teams. 7 h ey are the conference le- aders with 4 wins against no defeats. Oakman has three wins. Homecoming is coming to Wildcat land Friday ni- ght. The guest is going to be Berry High School. Co- ach Collins is inviting ev- eryone right now out to the game, which should be fil- led with fine football play and that homecoming ce- lebration mood. The Wildcats were left out of the state play-offs by the hair of a football this weekend as both of the top two teams of the class 2-A circuit came home with wins. The Wildcats remained number five on the list of top teams. It makes us feel like a bridesmaid, commented Coach Hosea Collins. We were left out. I am certainly proud of this tea m and what it has accomplished. Thissame group won the Wal- Win Cham- pionship last year and did it again this year. In three years they have lost only five ball games, which ii something to be proud of This bunch, I feel, could have done the Wal-Win Conference, Walker County, and Oakman High School proud in the championships. •! ♦ ♦ ♦  i Oakman barely missed the chance to play in the cham- pionships, losing only one game all season long, that being a 19-0 loss to Carboa HiU. j Lamar County, one of the top four in the state, had the same record as did Oakman. Lamar had enough tie break- .ing points to put them in the play-off.
