Under the leadership of Bob Hill, stu- E dent body president, this board has done tit' its best to keep Tech what has long been considered one ot the most democratic H mrgfmem schools in the West. Through this board's was sm me efforts many points of great importance, Bee sa it e Msn is as .f E its it was this , eggs-sive that in many schools would not have my ge been presented to the executive bodies, ries were discussed and decided upon. 9 W it E M In order that the student body might keep abreast with current developments, me :rs its is the board originated the procedure of E 5,233 tacking up the minutes ot their meetings E may on the bulletin board and oi inviting representative students to attend the meetings themselves. The so-called big three oi the Exec- utive Board and student leaders are the student body president, boys' vice-presi- dent, and girls' vice-president. Bob l-lill, as student body president, presided over all ol Tech's weekly Thurs- BOB HILL day assemblies and acted as the school's Student Body President representative to the outside world: also he chairmaned the Executive Board meetings, which were held in the wee small hours on every Tuesday morning. Serving as boys' vice-president and second in line to the throne was Henry Clark. Outside of his chores of number- two-man, it was his job to see the students on the busses after school and to supervise the up-to-dateness of the posters and banners scattered throughout the halls. The girls' vice-presidential position was held by Iennie Chan, who also was the ex-officio president of the Delphian society. She Was in charge of all the girls' activities held at school, which included the Big-Little Sister party, a fashion show, and other girls' events. On her right hand in executing these events were the fourteen Delphians, who are selected and elected each term from the L12 class by the senior and H-ll girls. Iune Chan, besides over- seeing the Honor Society, was in charge oi the Lawn Board. The Finance Board,pilot- ed by Lorry Serrano, has the chore of selling tickets ior the games and shows at school. The Social activ- ities Committee, which had control over all the dances, was two-stepped forward by Pat Ienkins. Ted Mc- Hale, Yell Leader, had un- der his direction a com- mittee that helped prepare tor the rallies. Editor of the Scribe was lohn Cooper, who attempted to keep up the paper's superior jour- nalistic rating. A new addition to the Executive Board this term was the Commissioner oi Clubs, who had the chore of keeping the numerous Tech clubs in harmony. lim Korniield was the first to hold the oiiice. Lois Hodge, Social Secretary, sent cards to the birthday children and notes to cheer the sick. CLASS f FFICERS Providing the representation of the six grades at Tech are the class officers. Although to many people, the class officers' jobs may seem quite simple and unimportant, they actually are a most vital part of our school's student government. Serving as the high senior presi- dent for the last term wasIackMuir. lt was he who was in charge ot all the senior activities including the tea, picnic, dinner and graduation. Iackie Piombo, vice-president and secretary, assisted him in all his duties. Leading the low seniors on to greater heights were Dario Levag- gi, who, although having no defi- nite duties, led his class with skill. The vice-president and secretary was Mickey Benas. Holding down the fort as low twelve class treas- urers were Etta Fun and Roy Nas- strom, respectively. It was their duty to collect the class dues. Mar- shalling the juniors on to a bigger- and-hetter prom was Rocky Ro- berta, I-I-11 president. Aiding him in his many duties was Carol Mc- Lean. Acting as the low junior of- ficers at the same time were Pat Caintic and Pat Adamis. lt was their job, along with the high junior officers, to work on the Iunior Prom. Starting out new in the political game this term was Ray Rode- lander sophomore president. After all, we, the first peacetime class since 1941, had been briefed on the vital statistics and facts of life at Tech the Saturday before. It didn't take long for us to get thoroughly confused, however, and, just to make mat- ters worse, our counselors seemed to be doing their best to separate us from our buddies. All were feeling about as low as a snake's hind leg, when along came Hello Day. That afternoon we discovered we could even say hi to a senior, and glowed with purple and gold pride when Technites dancing with us took us for upperclass- men. ln short, we became part of Technical. Games made up a large part of our afterschool life. Our first term of football showed us out in front fighting tthough afterwards we didn't do so noblyl. The most irritating moment in our sports history, however, was the day we missed the O.A.L. track crown by one half point, avenged, however, this year. Of course, there were courses We had to take, like geometry, chemistry, and U. S. history, but they had their lighter sides, too. Who could forget about pi, Miss Forsyth's lichen, or the trip to the Naturalization C?l Court? But whenever studies or grades got the best of us, We immediately racked out to Chris', the Bulldog, or Fentons' to drown our sorrows in a coke. Ever on the go, we joined clubs and boards and sooner or later got to a Dux Picnic. Some of us even rcbn for office. But our senior year, spangled with activ- ities, whizzed by and left us, in cap and gown, wistfully wishing we had it to live all over again. George Latter, Ann Phillips, and commitiee provided lun and irolic aplenty for Senior Day, which fell second on the calen- dar. Then came the tea, whose planners were cap- iained by Dawna Green and Don Iones. Of course, the high spot in the social life of any H-12 is the Prom, which Carol Cochran, lack Benson, and their group presenied on May 28. I vga T99 1 wg Each for all, and all for each. Outsiders might scoff at the suitability of Tech's motto, knowing that her 2240 students differ widely in cultures, nationalities and creeds. Her large number alone would warrant cause for skepti- cism of the possibility for either individualism or unity among the student body. But the motto does fit. Fellowship and friend- ship contribute to what Technites proudly refer to as that Tech spirit. Differences dissolve in the common medium of participa- tion in school activities. Activities include attending games, plays, dinners, and dancesf playing on the various girls' and boys' sports teamsg working for scholastic and other honorsg contributing to the upkeep and functioning of the school by joining boards and committeesg leading class and student body projects as officers: entertaining students in assemblies: representing Tech to the public: or just enlarging one's circle of friends by cheery hi's. The most expansive activity offered to students, how- ever, is a membership in one or more clubs. Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Clubs the club program has gone forward with leaps and bounds during the past term. The number and variety of clubs has increased and those already established have been given many different duties around the school to do. Throughout the past term the many clubs have shown a decided jump in membership, and, therefore, it can be assumed that more students are taking part in the school activities. Through the assemblies, softball tournaments, and other events, the clubs have presented a large number of students with an opportunity to take part in school activity. At the present time, our clubs are divided into three main groups: language, service, and hobby clubs. ln the first group may be found the largest number of students. A .xr tv: 'rt 1 J U4, 1 m mms E?
