Now at the end of three years, as we take leave of the school, we are no longer lost, but are familiar with every nook and cranny of the Pink Prison. The first thing our class did as a whole that first term was to elect as our class officers Chuck Pusey, President: Bruce Rosemond, Vice-President, and Mar- garet Samuelsen, Secretary. Anxious to start partici- pating in school affairs, our class enthusiastically :supported Amicae and Boots, our grade clubs. Betty Ann Campbell and Gene Bakar presided over these clubs' activities. In the H10 we were fast becoming familiar with Oakland High School and were pla ing an important partins o-- - ' ' H:::: - urclassPres- Kathy Flor- ne - - o y. ar ene Stan ev as President of Amicae and Carl Grondona President of the boys' grade club, which had changed its name to Vaga- bonds. This term featured our sophomore hop, Chinatown, under the leadership of Jeanne Evans, general chariman. A fitting climax to our first year at Oakland High School was the OAL football cham- pionship won by our Wildcats. Our class was repre- sented on the championship team by Elton Kantor, tackle. The beginning of our junior year saw the entrance of chemistry into our lives. Nevertheless, we were able to make a good showing in school activities. Class officers were Bill Gentry, President: Phil Bluer, Vice-President, and Ianice Aobling, Secretary. Grade club proxies were Don Benner and Nancy Lee. In the cast of the operetta, Hollywood Bound, we found the names of Carl Selinger, lim Raeside and Ieanne Evans. Our class had athletes as well as actors. Bill Gentry and Bob Martin played varsity baseball, and Gary Srnook, Carl Grondona and lim Raeside made the track team. This term our class did its part to bring fame to Oakland High School- when our classmate, Kathy Florness, was elected the most beautiful fifteen-year-old in the Bay Area. Our H11 term found us still struggling with chem- istry. Class politicians began to show up in Don lftenner, class president: Carl Grondona, commis- sioner of boys' affairs: and Executive Committee members Chuck Pusey, Boys' Athletics, and Chuck Miller, Associate Iustice. Our class activities were Ianucrry 1952 Well rounded, for we had newshounds and athletes as well' as politicos. Gene Bakar, Don Koue, Chuck Miller and Bill Hughes were members of the Aegis staff: while our Block O winners included Herb Berkowitz, Phil Bluer, Bill Malenfant and Ray Chiljian from the basketball team and footballers Elton Kantor and Bob Lee. A lot of planning and hard work by Jeanne Evans, general chairman, Dave Holleman, George Smith, Betty Campbell, Chuck Pusey, Cliff Meese and Maureen Eastus made our Iunior Prom, Vienese Gardens, a big success. Our last year was a very active and hectic one. W' ith Mitch Gemer as president: George Smith, vice- president, and Sally Moore, secretary, we L12's be- came a driving force in the school. We were repre- sented in student government, club activities, dra- matics, and athletics. Cabinet members were Chuck Pusey, commissioner of buildings and grounds: Betty Ann Campbell, commissioner of girls' affairs, and Ieanne Evans, commissioner of finance: lim Raeside, commissioner of boys' affairs, and Carl Grondona, commissioner of clubs. Executive Committee mem- bers included Ronny Cole, chairman of noon super- vision: Don Renner, chairman of boys' athletics: Chuck Miller, associate justice, and Marlene Ander- son, assistant yell leader. Arnold Kemes and Lucy Ann Fish were grade club presidents: while other club presidents included Don Benner, Key Club and Keyes Committee: Sandra Robinson, UNESCO: Bob Lee, Chi-U, and Iessie Siu, G. A. A. Taking part in Alicefin Wonderland, the term play, were Carl Selinger, lim Raeside, Harvey Levy and Clyde Dixon. Much time was spent by many members of our class in planning and giving our Senior Stomp, Steriopti- can Stomp. And finally came the time when we entered the halls of the Pink Prison as high seniors. Picked to lead us during all the activities of our last six months were first and second half presidents, Betty Ann Campbell and Chuck Pusey. They were aided by first half officers ludy Siegel, vice-president: Ianice Aab- ling, secretary: Bob MacMillan, yell leader: and second half officers Charles Quesnoy, vice-president, and Sandra Robinson, secretary. Our two grade clubs were combined to form the High Twelve Class Club, headed by Ray Chiliian, president: Don Benner, vice- president: Kathy Florness, secretary, and Alister An- derson, yell leader. Leaders in student government this term were Cliff Messe, student body president: fContinuedl Szsiwzf , Y Q 4 W , we 'IIQX -'3ff'- ' 1 gy. -2' J ' K . il, xx -1 A mmm ar' ' , ik QQQ,-ph me my -w Mr, Nw september 1949 Spring Senior Recollections June 1952 We, as Ll0's, began our tradition of doing things differently when we became the first class to take the new biology requirement and the first class to have a program without study halls. Another unusual feature was that our class and club officers had been elected in the H9 and were ready to serve us as soon as we entered Oakland High School. Bill Stomberg was class president with Karolynne Jong, Ardyth Fleet, Helen Eddy, Mary Louise Holland, and Harry Reeves to assist him as class officers. Velma Phillips and Bill Irwin presided over our grade clubs, Reginae and Regals. Our class cake sale, under Mary Louise Holland, Evelyn Jacobsen, and Harry Reeves, netted 353.201 With this money the class adopted a family at Christmas and had a Who Am I? dessert party. The class contributed Ted Malynn to Oakland High league champion football team and gave 59 names to the honor roll. Wielding the gavel at our H10 class meetings was Bill Irwin. Bob Peyton, Betty Fong, Phyllis Petersen, Carol Barrett, and Pete Scott were other officers. Rich- ard Lema, class yell leader, stirred class spirit with a campaign for class songs, mottos, and yells. This eventful term saw the institution of Tri-O, a club for honor roll students in the class of June, 1952. Tri-O, standing for service to Oakland, Others and Ourselves, was presided over by Jay Pinney. The newly- formed Pepsters, under Madeline Durrett, worked hard to teach our class songs and yells. We dug a deeper toe-hold into athletics with Bob Garner, Bob Byrd, Bob Mann, Mel Presby, and Ted Malynn in baseball and Bruce Little, Jim Luttrell, Irv I-Iirsch, Bill Irwin, Pete Scott, Arthur Kanzaki, and Dick Lipa- novich in track. H10 was our first semester of eligi- bility for membership in CSF, and I8 joined the state honor society. Special honor was brought to our class by Harry Reeves who became the first and only tenth grader to win the Drew Cup, and by Bob Rogers' Frisco Jazz Band, which appeared on TV with Bob, Carole Adell, and Bob Redpath. At the Boardwalk the Regals, in keeping with their tradition, presented a girl show. Helen Eddy and Bill Stomberg were grade club presidents this term. Funds gained at our successful Soph Hop, Pirates Rendez-vous, were to be used in financing our Senior Ball. Carol Barrett was general chairman, assisted by these committee chairmen: Pete Scott, Bill Irwin, Bob Peyton, Doris Dysart, Phyllis Petersen, Don Fenn, Mel Grodzik, Myrna Frazier, Karolynne Jong, Adie Klein, Betty Petersen, Aileen Warland, Jack Haley, James Ong, James Tom, Norman Owen, and Sam Summer- field. Our exciting Lll semester, punctuated by chem experiments, saw Maxine Stone, Capwell Cup win- ner: Ardyth Fleet called to Washington to meet the President: Marlene Campbell, Miss Coast Guard of 1951: and a meeting of the student cabinet with city officials which brought us our clubroom. We were represented in athletics by Bob Mann, Ted Malynn, Mel Presby, Bob Garner, Myron Nevraumont, Andy Tillman, Bob Birkie, Don Trask, Denny Moyes, Bill Beck in football, and Bob Mann and Ted Malynn in basketball. This term we had l0 new members in CSF. Our class nearly ran the Aegis with more than half the reporters and the following heads coming from our class: Nelda Herby, John Arnedt, Lily Ginn, Frances Yee, and Bill Irwin. Club Presidents were Marilyn Martin, Reginae: Raymond Tom, Regalsp Mary Louise Holland, Tri-O: and Elaine Medeiros, Pepsters. Class officers were Jackie Joynson, presidentp and Pete Scott, Dave Toll, Bill Irwin, Deanna Porikos, and Justin Haruyama. Dave Toll was prexy for the Hll class. Also participating in golf were Ellis Sioberg, Tom Morrell, and Dave Hiden. Margie Lawless made Tribune headlines 'for her ice skating ability, and Elaine Rylander was chosen queen of a Swedish Festival. Nine successful politicians who held cabinet office during our L12 term were Velma Phillips, Helen Eddy, Vern Atkinson Bill Stomberg, James Ong, Frances ee, o ey on, Pete Scott, and Larry Goldsborough. Two solid weeks of tests in American Problernsl The senior picnic, led by the second-half social chairmen, had the following committee chairmen: Paddy Stewart, Bev Wagler, Betty Fong, Sally Sims, Barbara McConnell, and Leila Seagel. The big day for cutting class llegallyl was May 29, and the place was the Ooold Hearst Ranch, where the sun shines all the time. The class social chairmen were in charge, aided by Velma Phillips, Mary Louise Holland, James Ong, Helen Eddy, Bob Rogers, Sandy Hudson, Claire Carson, Pearl Torres, Carole Adell, Liz Bailey, and Jackie J oynson. Graduation, the all-important event of our high school lives, was planned by a committee under the direction of Nelda Herby. Several new features were added to the tranditional graduation ceremony: there were six speakers instead of four: the class marched in by heightp and the final speaker was a class speaker, whom we had elected to present OUR thoughts on the fabulous night of June 13, 1952, our lucky Friday, the 13th, graduation! The dizzy round of senior activities began on September 25 when, in three modern busses, we journeyed to the Old Hearst Ranch for our Senior Picnic. We all had a swell time dancing, riding and, of course, swimming in the beautiful pool. November 20 was the next high spot on our activity list. It marked the halfway point in our high senior term and we celebrated at our senior dinner. Chuck Miller was the general chairman, and the Hawaiian theme was carried out in decorations executed by Pat Lawrence and her committee. The traditional ceremony of handing the president's gavel from the first half pres- ident to the second half president was performed, and the highest 10 per cent and class valedictorians were announced by Mr. Pinckney.
