Seventh Grade Hzstory The ent1re seventh grade started the year off wxth a hectlc two weeks of trymg to orlentate to the new type of school 11fe the awe of h1gh school There was the problem of trymg to remember where the ever eluslve locker was Then havxng found 1t there was the problem of gettlng mto the th1ng Next came the problem of whlch room to go to next and th1s dld pose a great problem We were constantly fmdmg ourselves m the rlght room at the wrong tlme wlth an all too d1fferent teacher After havmg mastered the problems of the locker the class rooms and the teachers we settled down for a year of work and fun Among the new found pleasures were football games to play for the more strong of heart and to watch for the mrlder members The f1rst great soc1al occas1on was the Halloween party wh1ch was on Fr1day evenmv before Halloween It was held rn the grade school gym The party lncluded the usual hauntlng characters that pop out around that season of the year to play games eat cake and drmk soda pop Faced w1th the problem of ralsmg noney to support thexr carnwal queen candxdate the members Jf the seventh grade class mvaded the1r mothers' knchens Armed wlth no knowledge but wmth a determmatlon to w1n they started try1ng to make candy Fmally many of the mothers came to rescue the kxtchens and 1n desperatlon make the candy themselves to save then' homes from utter destructlon Well supplled wlth candy the members of the class supported by the juruor hmgh school band and varrous talented clowns mvaded the cxty of Oakland When Followmg closely on the heels of the candy sale came Thanksgwmg season Speakrng of Thanksgwmg remmds us that the seventh grade class presented a Thanksgwmg play for the P T A Play dld I say'P Well maybe that 13 not the word w1ll use lt LD l1eu of anythmg prmtable to say about xt The play was su 11 a stmkxng success that the ent1re seventh grade had to go under ground and h1de out for two days Thanksgwmg vacatlon Then came the lull Thanksgxvmg was over and a whole three weeks of attendmg classes unnl we could get another vacatron In order to fnll the t1m we planned and executed our Chnstmas pa ty There was the usual exchangmg of glftg grab bag style accompan1ed by plenty of 1ce cream cake and hot chocolate Fmally lt arrwed The pause that relleves Chrlstmas vacatzon Arrwmg back at school much the worse for wear we were faced w1th a new and more terrlble experrence No one had ever heard of such thumgs as semester exams Why' the teachers even expected us to remember everythmg we had had all year Everyone knows you dont remember any thmg for more than s1x weeks at the most After many n1ghts of cramrnmg the monstrous days came Some of us took the tests w 1th grace others were taken by the tests but all ln all we d1d faxrly well I . . . , r . v - Il A, I . . . . l 4 I f y ' - I . f.. - ' 6 1 - . , ' .
