FIELD GOALS FREE THROWS FOOTBALL Under the top notch coaching by Steve Beck, Oakland High School enjoyed the most successful season in its history of six-man football by winning the County and the District Four championships. Our team was sparked by our outstanding defensive center, Ronne Eittreim, who was in practically every play. Offensively we had an atomic backfield led by the powerhouse drive of Dave Rice, the fast elusive side-stepping of Dale Roberson, and the blocking and deceptive handoffs of quarter-back Bob Seely Doug Brownson for his first vear of football made a terrific end and did a good job as running mate for our veteran pass receiver, Bob H111 Oakland High ran from two formations a short punt and a single wing with a powerful line average of 170 pounds and a deceptive backfleld with an average weight of 145 pounds One of the major reasons for the outstanding success of our team was their ability to come from behind to win BASKETBALL STATISTICS PLAYERS DEFENSE POSSESSION Gildersleeve H111 D Brownson Rice Seely Seehawer Elttreim 4 7 4 7 '7 42 47 27 342 3 240 7 82 354 7 250 300 727 F Los Gain 1221 32 2 25 TOTALS 4 431 Of the 24 games played Oakland High School averaged 43 35 2 3 37 points a game to their opponents 34 points per game Oakland High School scored a total of 1029 points to their opponents 823 points 4 Totals include points made by three other boys who played only a few minutes of game time BASKETBALL In basketball Oakland had a most successful season by winning the County Championship and losing the district title by one point to state finalists Powers The style of play used was a single pivot emphasizing ball control and a strict man to man defense However in the county tournament Oakland used a zone de fense to beat Dra1n in the semi finals Center Bob H111 and guard Dave Rice were selected County All Star The starting lme up averaged six feet one inch in height with an over all average of five feet eleven inches In basketball Oakland showed the same great fighting spirit by coming from behind to win many of their games Md.
