FOOTBALL - 1946 The O.C.H.S. football team started its season with a victory over the Rockport Zebras 38f2O and looked as if they were headed for a successful year. The following week the team encountered a strong Petersburg team and was nosed out 35f18. The next week the team traveled to Poseyville and wilted the Posies 26-0. It was a different story the next week when the Tell City Marksman defeated them 51f33. In the Homecoming game the Acorns were defeated 56f44 by the Cannelton Bulldogs. The Dale team journeyed to the Acorn turf and defeated the Acorns 5 5f28. The last two games were away from home and the Acorns lost both games - the first to the 1946 Conference Champs, Mt. Vernon, 50-20 and the second 39f6 to the Grayville, Illinois team. The boys enjoyed the year although they won only two games of the eight. John McCarthy and Elmer Thomas were selected as members in the All-Conference second team as L.E. and F.B. respectively. Edward Gladish was given Honorable Mention at the center position.
