The class sponsors were Miss Robb and Mr. Kilpatrick. The outstanding event of the sophomore class was the ordering of our class sweaters and jackets. As sophomores the class elected as president, Marion Dysertg vicefpresident, Louise McCaf- feryg secretaryftreasurer, Rosalie Cole. In the fall of '42 only fiftyffour juniors returned. The class sponsors were Miss Robb and Mr. Rumble. Y As juniors the class elected Marion Dysert, presidentg Dottye Wilder, vicefpresidentg Harry Goerlitz, secretary-treasurer. Some of the highflights of the year were the Junior Class Play, Dotty and Daffy, and the order' ing of our class rings and pins. The class sponsored the interfclass tourney and the Junior and Senior Banquet. In the fall of '43 only thirtyfnine seniors returned. The highflight of this year was the Senior Class Play, Little Women. The sponsors were Miss Robb and Mr. Rumble. The Seniors elected Marion Dysert, president, Robert Mardis, vicefpresidentg Georgia Sumners, secretaryftreasurer. The event the seniors looked forward to most was the JuniorfSenior Banquet, at which they were the honor' ed guests. SCRAPBOOK STAFF NEWSPAPER STAFF CLASS PROPI-IECY In the year 195 4, barring the depression caused by World War II, we find Miss Violetto, the world's greatest comedy director, better known to her former school chums as Violet Ferguson, about to begin a worldtour. This tour is to be sponsored by the Soup to Nuts manufacturing Company, owned by none 'other than our own little Mildred Lamb. It seems Mildred's early position as a business lady had increased her knowledge and skill until she soon replaced her former employer, Kenneth Hurt. Kenny was now her husband and silent partner in the business. The name of the presentation to be given was Now Is The Time, Or Is It? , featuring Laura May Yancy as clarinet soloist, billed to replace Benny Goodman and his licorice stick . Since her trip began in a few weeks, Violet, decided to visit her dear friend, Janet Call, who was also claiming her place among the artists as a great dramatic actress. Violet booked passage aboard the TWA Transport Lines and her trip was all set. The day arrived and Violet felt much excitement as she boarded the plane, but the reason for her excitement wasn't quite clear, until she'd seen the pilot who proved to be another of her former classmates, Bill Dye. They began quite a chat about those good old days and Bill told Violet that on her tour she must be sure to see Tom Yeager and his wife, the former Luanna Goldman, who were now missionaries to India. He also told her he'd met Ruth Stephens, now Mrs. William Rule, and her son, Billy, who was living in Oklahoma. Soon the plane landed in New York and their visit was ended. Thus Violet rushed to a beauty salon which was close by and upon entering found Barbara Bot' toms and her brother, Junior, as cofowners and operators. junior had won many cups at the World's Fair for his expert beautician work. He was not teaching a class Beauty Instructions , which he invited Violet to attend as his guest. Violet ac' cepted the offer and found many members of the '44 graduation class, Nina Hopkins, and Delma Walton with Yvonne McCafferty as headfinstructor. Violet was informed that Imogene Riddle had started the course but her husband, P. G. Parke, a foreign news correspondent, had returned from abroad and she had gone to San Francisco to meet him. It was being rumored that he still carried a torch for Dottye Wilder who had been chosen Miss America of 1954 out in San Francisco and Imogene was tak' ing no chances. Imogene was being accompanied on her trip by Berta Blevins who was gathering material for her news column in PM. She had succeeded Dorothy Thompson as a wellfknown news columnist. Georgia Sumners was business manager of this great daily, PM. Dotty Collins was now a photographer for Harper's Bazaar Magazine. Again Violet hated to leave her friends but she knew she must not keep Janet waiting. Thus she rushed to her appointment with janet, only to find Olevia Sullivan awaiting her. Olevia was janet's manager and she informed Violet that Janet eloped with Marion Dysert, who was now campaigning for President of the United Mine Workers' Association. Since the marriage was to be kept a secret so Janet's career would not be ruined, they were married by Bob Davis, the judge of a circuit court. Violet left rather reluctantly and down'heartedly but soon ran across Louise Richardson and june Risley, still together. They were both married but their husbands were partners in a large business corporation and therefore Louise and June lived in the same town. They were going to the hospital to see Vent Bartley whom they heard had been injured by a fall at work. He was a tightfrope walker with the circus. Violet accompanied them to the hospital where they found Warren Hedges and john Culver also visiting Vent. Warren was now a probate judge and john was manager of a chain of filling stations. They found Vent in the pink of condition, but why shouldn't they? Patricia Faries was head nurse of the hospital and Louise McCaffery was the dietitian. As the visitors were about to leave they were greeted by Marlin Oliver, Pressident of the Metropolitian Life Insurance Company. He told them he had just seen Joanna Wollam and she was a physical education instructor at Illinois University. Geraldine Zimmerman, a graduate cadet nurse then appeared saying vis' iting hours were up and they would have to leave. They left Vent in an improved condition with hopes of his speedy recovery. She had but a few more hours before she would retum home for a rest until her tour began. Since she had rushed around several days, Violet decided she'd like to relax and hear some good music. Thus she went to the theatre to hear Bob Mardis who was now directing his own band in a superfduper style all his own. She was much relaxed after the performance and when Bob, with all his winsome ways, asked to escort her to a celebration for a friend of his,' she ac' cepted the invitation. When they arrived at the celebration, Violet found that it was given in her honor, and many of the members of her graduating class were present. Phyllis Rudisel, a great pianist, teaching at Indiana University, was there with Harry Goerlitz, who had decided to make the navy his life's work and who was now a captain. In a group, all her friends escorted Violet to the station and thus she could return home and look forward to her trip around the world with great eagerness. PAGE SEVENTEEN JUN' 'QQ 'Ck' W iU 15' if BASKETBALL TEAM FOOTBALL TEAM ATHLETICS Football: Our football season got off to a bad start when the boys took a sound defeat from Petersburg, 30 to 6. However, our boys were not downhearted and came back to play a strong game against Mt. Vernon which they lost 24 to 12. We then defeated Cannelton, 24 to 0. We then lost to Tell City, 18 to 16. Our last game was with Petersburg, we won 20 to 18. Graduating letterman was Harry Goerlitz, who was named the All'Conference quarterback. Returning lettermen are Robert Rich, Donald Collins, Fred Kell, Edward Wilhite, and Lawrence Lamon, who was named on the All-Conf Basketball : ference second team as an end. Vernon Oakland City Cannelton Oakland City Tell City Oakland City Petersburg Mr. Stuckey started us this season and Mr. Kell finished the season since Mr Stuckey went to the navy. As for the basketball season we came fairly close to splitting even on the games we won and lost. Toward the middle of the season we lost our star guard, Harry Goerlitz, who enlisted in the navy. However later on during the season we acquired a new forward, Robert Mardis, who ably filled the vacancy. We won from many of the larger ball teams this year, including the defeat of the supposed' ly strong Winslow live. Other teams we defeated included Lynnville, Petersburg, Francisco, Hazelton, Mt. Olympus, Haubstadt, Winslow, Owensville, Tell City. We won our first game of the Sectional from Mt. Olympus 43 to 31. However we finished the season by losing to Patoka in the sectional, 35 to 22. We won ten games and lost eight. Graduating lettermen are Harry Goerlitz, Marion Dysert, Paul Parke, Bill Dye, Robert Mardis, and Kenneth Hurt.
