CLAUDIO BRINGS BRAZIL TO AMERICA Claudio Roberto Meriz arrived in America August 18th, 1987. He came from Niterol City, Brazil, approximately 10 miles from Rio de Janeiro. “Claud” is 17 years old and his favorite color is red. He is staying with the Ed Wafle family here in Oakfield. Claudio’s native language is Portuguese. He enjoys art, foreign exchange students, traveling (he’s been to Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Illinois), History, Social Problems, and swimming. In Brazil he attended Instituo abel-Catholic school. It is very difficult there compared to here, says Claudio. The school has 3,500 students and all grades (2nd-12th) are private. School starts in March and ends in December, and they go from 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 A.M. In Brazil “Claud” lives with his parents Eli Heusser Meriz and Jose Meriz. His mother is 45 years old and is a housewife. Mr. Meriz is 51, and is a veterinarian. Both of Claudio’s brothers have graduated from college. Luiz Alberto Meriz, a naval engineer, is 24, and Paulo Ricardo Meriz is a 22 year old architect. So far Claudio likes the United States and enjoys Oakfield High School.
