Ruggero Meets Oakfield It seems like yesterday when on August 9th, I met Oakfield, my new community of life, for the first time. Time flies when you are having a great time. I’m Italian and I came from Ancous, a beautiful town on the Adreatic coast, about 60 miles south of Lau Marino. Its population is about 105-110 thousand, and its port is one of the biggest on the Adreatic Sea. I have to say, coming to a rural village like Oakfield was quite a big change for me: the calm atmosphere that I found here, against the never ending activity of my town. However, except for the weather (too cold for me), I didn’t find many difficulties of adjustment. Mine is a normal Italian family of four people: my parents, my brother Paolo (16) and I. My Dad teaches Italian and my Mom teaches English: they both teach at high school level. My brother is attending the first year of high school. As regards to me, I can say that I love summer, sun, and the sea, I enjoy swimming and windsurfing very much. I also like to travel and to have new experiences. Even if I found more differences than I thought before coming, the United States is what I expected it to be. When I came here, my purposes were to know a different culture, to meet other people, and mainly to make this experience fruitful. Thanks to the people I met here, I succeeded, and all their talks and adventures have become the most wonderful of my life. Therefore, I would like to say Thank You” to everyone who helped me, particularly the AFS Chapter, the high school teachers and students. I especially would like to thank my American family from my heart, the Steffes, who gave me a lot of affection and made me feel at home. Thanks to all of you. I'll never forget anything or anybody.
