As the years went by, we had many exciting times at OHS: disecting frogs in Biology, playing train in Geometry class and having our own trial for former President Nixon. Through all these times, though, it has not necessarily been the moments, but the people we've shared them with that have made them special. One person that stands out in the minds of us seniors is Jim Pollock. Through all our years in high school we have been greeted daily by his smiling face and kind remarks. Though not an educator by degree, he has taught us to see life from different views. In appreciation for all the help he has given us, we, the Class of 1983, wish to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Jim Pollock. He has marked a page in our lives that time will never erase. 36 L L - - ■w ; iaSE '{f.;, 3? ’3 . □ v; 88K tewl v:1 SPECIAL MOMENTS IV OUR LIVES k ; 'j:v -“ •- ,• v W i ' . v l . ? -. The underclassmen's enthusaism seemed to get things done Just as the song says, We' ve Only Just Begun. As this little summary ends, please note F.H.A. is a group that rates high in the public vote. Nancy Adams, Advisor 46 FFA Has a Productive Year Oakfield FFA had a successful year, as it implemented several new activities. This year's Art Club has had a record number of members. We started this year by placing third with Art Club's first float in the Homecoming parade. In November, we sold cheese for the Holidays to make a little extra money for the club. We celebrated Christmas by decorating the school's office tree and the Art Club's annual tree. The ornaments on the Club tree where made by members and sold at the Christmas Concert. To top the year off we had some projects for St. Pat's Day and Easter. This year shows much of the progress Art Club has been trying to achieve in the past. Mrs. Stuhr, Instructor 51 They’ll Find the Root of the Problem Math is progressing geometrically at O.H.S. The most exciting thing in years has been the first Flyway Conference Math Meet hosted by Oakfield. Students have made a traveling trophy for the winning Math team and we plan on keeping it in Oakfield. Late in the year, we travel to Slinger for a meet, and then on to the State Meet at Green Bay. We have 8 students each on the Varsity and J.V. teams, with quite a number of extras. This is the most enthusiastic team we have had and it may cost us some steaks if the team places in the State Meet. A.M.,K.V.,P.S. Our school received the addition of three new apples this year—one in the Library and two in the computer room. These computers have been used by many students in computer and business classes. New programs that have been used are Visi Calc (an electronic spread sheet), word processor, and Data Base System. Computers have also been used by the office for activity account, and mailing labels by the paper staff for typing the paper, library for records. A.M.,G.N. Back Row: B. The Science Club paid for a taxidermist to mount the bird. It is a beautiful specimen and will be on display in the department. Dan Reetz built a case for the bird. We, again, sold refreshments at athletic events. Money raised was used for club expenses, the bird, awards, and computer supplies. Debbie Haack was a first team all conference selection last year. Six Senior letter winners return to this year's squad. The Junior and Sophomore players will be counted on to contribute to the team's success. Lack of depth is a concern, as starting forward Sarah Bliss dislocated her shoulder in the season opener, and will be lost for the season. Coach Caves Back row: S. Stienke, C. Bebow, P. The girls were a talented and hardworking group, judging from the number of records set last year. Debbie Haack succeeded in advancing to the state competition—an Oakfield first. Miss Verdegen The 1983 golf season will see some changes. Two conference schools ahve dropped golf. The remaining four will play each other twice. Antoehr change will be the addition of two girls to our team. Coach McLean Back row, left to right: J. Steuwer, S. Kind-schuh, E. Schwanke, J. Champeau, Mr. McLean, coach, middle: R. Sukowatey, R. Coach Knuth 72 Working Together Our 1982 track team was young, supported by eight freshmen. The season was a up and down battle, but experience gained was our biggest accomplishment. The boys worked very hard, and with last years experience, this Spring's team should be much improved. £ Back row: S. Bliss, B. Winberg, G. Ryan, K. Spears, D. Haack, J. Schaefer: Second row: J. Mayhew 73 Oakfield ever to make a trip to the State Tourney. This year's team has much to be proud of, due to their hard work and dedication to the goals which they set to start the year, and the confidence with which they attacked the task. Congratulations. The 1983 baseball team tried hard to improve last year's record. They played with great skill and determination. Mr. Heyn Guys Go to State The Oaks baseball team finished the 1982 season with a 13-5 over-all record and a 7-3 record in the Flyway conference, which was good for a second place finish. Although this is our third year of the girls softball team, it is our first year in the Flyway conference. It will take alot of hard work and effort. We are looking forward to a good season. Coach Mayhew Cheers Raise the Roof The 1982-83 cheerleading squad worked hard and enthusiastically to give the athletic events spirit and pep. Seven girls cheered for the football season and three additional members were added to the group for the basketball and the wrestling seasons. Two juniors, Greg Ryan and Gary Ryan, and a sophomore, Pat Ryan, joined the seniors to make up the starting five. The team may lack experience, but will make up for it with aggressiveness, good shooting and team play. The goal is to improve on last year's record of 7 wins and 13 losses. Mr. Baeten Hard At Work Senior We were here to experience different interests, that all reflect our future plans. All events attended will be remembered in the good ways and the bad. From meetings, to dances, and all sports of the talented come memories to reflect on from the past. The staff and personnel helped to teach us the ways, of which their knowledge was the best. These years have held a lot of memories which we will all remember and think about. For some of us it is going to be hard to leave, but those who took it for granted will just depart. The years go by fast; too fast to keep up with all the occasions involved. But the events each of us took part in will be the thoughts that will be cherished. Because, this was our time to plan, and set goals, that we wish to reach and live. Hopefully we all used this time wisely, and with a lot of thought; because now, it is over; and time for our future to begin. Mary Wettstein Best of Friends Yesterday when we were young, our friendship was a happy one. We tried our best to get along, back then it was like singing a song. The good times as well as the bad. You were there to help share them, And during the bad times you were there to help bear them. But that's when the cold set in. We took the road that put us free, out to where we wanted to be. Even though we knew in our hearts we were going to go our separate ways, we still hated to see each other depart. And when you go, wherever you go, I want you to know, I'll always remember you deep in my heart. But through all the fears and all the tears, I only have one thing to say, Even though we go our separate ways, I hope we will always be the Best of Friends, (even if only by heart). FOND DU LAC The yearbook staff greatly appreciates all those individuals who have contributed their time or photos for the yearbook. Special thanks go to Doug McLean, Mr. Ron Ahrens, Mr. Dudley Schmidt, Mr. Ken Johnson, and Mr. Dan Mauer for their contributions. Front Cover photo taken by Mr. McLean. Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Baeten, and Mr. Toomey watch a sunset over Lake Superior on a 40-mile hike. When economic times are bad, the yearbook staff realizes that everyone is short of cash. It is with this thought that we want to especially thank our sponsors for their advertisements. Through their generosity, the price of the yearbook has been kept to a minimum. A Special Thank-you to our Advisors The year is over now, and the final yearbook has been signed. Before the book is closed and set aside until that summer day when we pull it out to look back at the year behind us, a special thank-you is given to Mrs. Linda Eschenbauch and Mr. Doug McLean. Throughout the year they have offered advice and have given up much of their time to help us. With all the work that is put into the yearbook, these advisors may often be overlooked. This is a special tribute to our advisors to thank them and to let them know that they are not forgotten by the staff. The 1982-83 Yearbook Staff INTER-COLLEGIATE PRESS MISSION.
