Some of this year's activities included a Halloween party, Christmas Caroling, benefit basketball game and a party for the children in town. The most fun was picking up litter in the area! At Homecoming we had a 1st place float and at Christmas a 2nd place skit. It is encouraging to know there are students in OHS that are willing to give their time and abilities to enrich the lives of others. It didn't take long for us to calculate how much a good bag of fresh popcorn could make for the club. Over $1,500 was made to purchase the computer hardware. We even had enough left over for a field trip to Allis Chalmers and the Miller Brewery. FFA Members, left to right. Back row: R. Kollman, B. Van Egtern, J. Heinz, J. Bovee, R. Zills, D. Bebow, T. Since all of the world's existence is dependant upon food, the FFA tries to provide experiences outside of the classroom to further the learning of the members. FFA also strives to provide social and recreational experiences for its members. In the future, we look forward to starting a community service project, an on-going safety program, and increasing the class offerings in the agricultural department. The first semester was spent getting acquainted with the new director, building a Homecoming float, and preparing for the successful Christmas concert. After Christmas, many members found themselves diligently preparing for an Honors Chorus clinic in Markesan, Solo and Ensemble contest in Horicon, and the talent show. The full chorus also participates each year in a competitive music Festival with schools in the conference. The music department from all three schools, along with many volunteers from the community, presented the second successful Mid-Winter Renaissance Feast. The year culminated with the Spring Concert, bringing to a close a year filled with many educational, pleasurable, and gratifying experiences. 47 Put your feet upon the ground, Become a part of the natural surroundings. The Art Club attracts students who do not always have a chance to participate in art classes; but are interested in the visual arts of crafts. Members are encouraged to bring in activity ideas to share with each other. Most of the projects made by the members involve crafts. Sometimes these projects are sold at art club sales. 53 They Keep the Beat Flagline-(left to right) L. Galbraith, C. Gau, L. Galbraith, J. Bebow, C. Flood, S. Hjelle, K. Volbright, J. The lack of snow did not keep Santa from arriving in his traditional red wagon escorted by his two elfish companions. To help celebrate Christmas along with Santa, came the Chipmunks, Snow Miser, and Mr. Bill. Top: Mr. Baeten wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. Held The Oakfield baseball team finished third in the Flyway Conference race in 1979 with its first winning mark in several years. The Oaks won 5, lost 4, and tied Horicon in the season opener. The highlight of the season was a nine inning game with undefeated Laconia that ended with a controversial play at the plate with 2 down in the last of the ninth which went the Spartans way. Mark Ryan led off the game with a home run. Individual standouts for the season were Mark Ryan and Bob Ceisthardt who were both named to the All-Conference Team outfield. The 1980 season promises to be even better for the Oaks with returning seniors Mike Bell, Rick Cowles, and Dan Redman joining Mark and Bob. 68 This was the best year that we've had in cross country in the last four. You can't see it in the record book, but the senior runners gave us good team leadership. If the undergraduates keep working as hard next year, we can have the nucleus of a strong team in '83. Two other seniors. Rich Franke, and Bob Ceisthardt, along with five juniors, Chuck Rumbuc, Gary Wettstein, Steve Franke, Todd Perry, and Scott Miller made up the rest of the varsity squad. Although the team did not have a winning season, they did provide some exciting basketball, being involved in six games, decided by two points. The team gave Coach Baeten his 400th win by beating North Fondy on a last second shot, 60-58. The winning shot was made by Mike Binney, with two seconds left on the clock. The highlights of the season included a 21-12 win over Marshall, and the 15-14 overtime win over Dodgeland. The final game for the Seniors was a 20-6 thumping of North Fondy in front of a Parent's Day Crowd. The Most Valuable Player Award was won by middle linebacker Curt Kindschuh. They test themselves against others. No excuses are needed. They win or they lose, on their own merit. That is Track and Field. Coach Hamilton is their thing In the past season, 1979, the Oaks golfers began strong with a second place by one stroke at the Elkhart Lake Invitational. After taking third at the Conference Meet, our total points for the season also gained us third. We look forward in 1980 to some good scores from experienced returning lettermen. We also had two substitutes who helped out during the year. 81 82 Milestone for Mr. Baeten This year was a milestone in the coaching career of Mr. Baeten. The Oaks gave Baeten his 400th victory, when they nosed out North Fond du Lac, 60-58, on Mike Binney's last second shot. The result was a 400-178 basketball record for Coach Baeten, an accomplishment only two other state coaches have reached. The event was commemorated by a ceremony presenting a trophy made from the game ball, signed by the players, to Mr. Baeten; and write-ups in area newspapers. Of his feat, Mr. Baeten gives all the credit to his teams: 400 wins in basketball are the result of hard work by many talented and dedicated players, over a period of 28 years. I'm very proud, happy, and lucky to have been associated with such quality athletes. Each team and each player did their share to make 400 victories possible. Kind words, that are the mark of a great man. Good-luck in the future, Mr. Baeten. 83 OHS Scoreboard GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL OAKS 49 Markesan 54 OAKS 70 Campbellsport 22 54 Horicon 32 51 Markesan 30 53 North Fondy 44 68 Horicon 48 43 Campbellsport 20 48 Laconia 53 54 Laconia 60 60 North Fondy 41 42 Dodgeland 41 54 Dodgeland 39 47 Lomira 51 45 Lomira 38 CC RECORD: 10-4 GIRLS IV BASKETBALL OAKS 20 Markesan 28 OAKS 42 Campbellsport 38 38 Horicon 34 33 Markesan 38 31 North Fondy 23 41 Horicon 29 37 Campbellsport 31 23 Laconia 34 22 Laconia 29 37 North Fondy 34 25 Dodgeland 26 32 Dodgeland 24 24 Lomira 22 26 Lomira 38 RECORD: 8-6 BOYS VARSITY FOOTBALL OAKS OAKS 7 Palmyra 24 15 Dodgeland 14 21 Marshall 12 7 Lomira 14 0 Ozaukee 27 0 Markesan 48 12 Laconia 36 14 Horicon 34 6 Campbellsport 56 20 North Fondy 6 RECORD: 3-7 BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL OAKS 45 Lomira 51 OAKS 65 Lomira 72 65 Markesan 86 59 Markesan 79 66 Horicon 67 51 Horicon 42 61 Campbellsport 54 61 Campbellsport 63 59 Laconia 74 47 Laconia 70 60 North Fondy 58 49 North Fondy 51 76 Dodgeland 74 72 Dodgeland 69 RECORD: 5-9 GOLF Oaks over Dodgeland 171-184 Campbellsport over Oaks 171-179 Lomira over Oaks 174-180 Horicon over Oaks 181-185 Oaks over North Fondy 186-204 Mayville over Oaks 189-191 Elkhart Lake Invitational: Oaks-2nd place Conference meet: Oaks-3rd place WRESTLING OAKS OAKS 54 Stockbridge 12 33 Laconia 30 24 Montello 36 9 Lomira 47 40 Pardeeville 24 27 Markesan 41 51 Elkhart 15 33 North Fondy 17 18 Oshkosh Lourdes 41 6 Dodgeland 50 34 Horicon 16 37 North Fondy 23 0 Campbellsport 68 RECORD: 7-6 BOYS JV BASKETBALL OAKS OAKS 46 Lomina 51 50 Lomira 43 58 Markesan 49 42 Markesan 47 54 Horicon 58 42 Horicon 38 47 Campbellsport 32 40 Campbellsport 41 43 Laconia 41 50 Laconia 43 56 North Fondy 57 56 North Fondy 42 50 Dodgeland 37 52 Dodgeland 37 RECORD: 10-4 FRESHMAN BASKETBALL OAKS OAKS 29 North Fondy 26 26 Laconia 28 26 Lomira 27 33 North Fondy 31 17 Campbellsport 45 25 Lomira 46 29 Horicon 40 15 Campbellsport 45 34 Markesan 30 39 Horican 47 29 Dodgeland 18 23 Laconia 38 RECORD: 4-8 84 Girls Run the Distance Back row: C. With virtually a new group, it took time to develop this unity. By tournament time we developed into a well skilled and thinking unit. Which, again, only proved what can be accomplished by individuals that care. Miss Schreiner 86 Victory From left to right, P. Brauer, D. Heinz, K. Vielbig, j. Be-bow, M. Merk, D. Collien, D. Success through Work 88 and dedication At times it is difficult to measure how successful a team is. If success is measured in the amount of work and dedication a team produces we were truly successful. This year's girls had no rest from competition. They were forced to play their best each and every game due to the State Champ” status created for them. With pressure continually on them, never before have I seen such enthusiasm and love for a sport as these girls displayed. Miss Schreiner J. V. Basketball players, left to right. Standing: D.
