Linda Canham became a secretary at Oakfield High School in 1971. Her cheerful ways have been with our class since 1974. And because of the type of person she is, we, the Class of 1978, would like to thank her for her kindness and respect. When we first entered Oakfield High School as freshman we barely knew Linda Canham. But as time went on we all naturally got to know her. Her smile, it greeted us every morning. Her actions, they made us laugh and enjoy her company, but most of all, her respect made us want to be like her. Because of these things we, the Class of 1978, would like to thank her with all our hearts. We will never forget Linda Canham, and our best wishes go with her always. Zhey keep things running smoothly Picture at left: Mr. Flury, custodian. Top, at right: Mr. Baeten, principal. Middle: Mr. George, superintendent. The members of the senior class certainly have the potential to be leaders of the future. Choose a field of interest early, work hard and I’m sure the goals reached will be self-fulfilling. —Mr. Baeten Top, at left: Mrs. Canham, secretary. Top, at right: Mr. Canham, custodian. The result of hours of hard work was a moving and well-acted preformance the actors can be proud of. A few weeks before Christmas a break-in occurred at the school and Mr. Hamilton’s stereo was stolen. It was with this stereo that Mr. Hamilton entertained us when we were in his room. The student body all pitched in and replaced it. The chorus added selective numbers from their concert. Skits were performed by the freshmen, junior and senior classes. Santa was on hand to give out presents to those who deserved them. This year awards were given out for the best skit. Teachers judged the skits, the scores were tallied, and the winner was announced. It was the juniors. Cheryl Honold handed the editorial responsibilities over to Pam Kester. Organizing reporters’ assignments, scheduling work sessions, recruiting typists—all the details of publishing each issue meant two years of hard work for Cheryl and her editorial staff. Pam looks forward to several years of the same hard work. —Mr. Tritz We Preserve the Memories The yearbook staff has worked very hard to preserve the Memories of 1977-78. The 12 members of the staff have given many hours to the planning of this yearbook. They have waged constant battles to meet deadlines, to find new innovative ideas, to lay out pages and track down copy. Under the watchful eyes of Mr. McLean and Miss Fischer the staff worked steadily. The co-editors, Rose Gau and Jane Esparza, provided the needed leadership. The result of all our work is this yearbook, and we are proud of it. Student Council The Student Council started out this year without any money in the treasury. It began to pick up with bake sales that were held after basketball games. We decided to sponsor a Computer Dance, with John’s Disco providing the music. The dance was a big success. We have a good group in the Student Council this year. Everyone, at some time, does their part to make whatever we’re doing a success. I can see that some of them will make good leaders for the Student Council next year. President-Bob Dineen Front row from left to right; B. Dineen, B. Wagenknecht, Mr. Baeten, K. Collien, L. Bliss. Heinz, Not shown; Gale Craig. 54 Building dor a Better Zomorrow 3.M.A. The Future Homemakers of America has grown this last year in many aspects. One of the biggest steps toward enriching the OHS chapter was the addition of guys to the membership. The candle sale was a success. A Halloween party given for the youngsters of the community, a bake sale, fall and spring rallies, a YMCA party and a benefit dance for the March of Dimes, were all activities sponsered by the FHA that proved to be fun for all. Besides enjoyment, the group has found FHA a place for learning, sharing and growing which we hope will continue. Miss Adams 9.7. A. The Future Farmers of America activities encourage members to learn how to conduct and take part in public events. The FFA National Organization is celebrating their 50th Anniversary, while the Oakfield Chapter is looking forward to their 1st anniversary when they’re affiliated this June at Green Lake. Mr. Matzke And Beat (joes In the 1977-78 school year the Oakfield High School Chorus started a new tradition under the directorship of Mr. Kloes. Their goals were to promote a greater level of appreciation and understanding of vocal music. They accomplished this goal not only by the diverse selection of music they choose to sing but also by their attitudes and strong character they showed in performance. The Chorus of 1977-78 set a high goal and good foundation for others to meet and build upon in the future congratulations to all of you. Mr. Kloes Due to dedication and enthusiasm, the band can be proud of itself. The Christmas Concert was a success and we are looking forward to all opportunities to perform for the public. Members had a good time popping corn and making hot chocolate and change. Early in the fall we took a field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, where we stood in a long line to get into the coal mine. The Club purchased two more calculators and made them available for student use. Early in January we tried a new venture; we sponsored a movie called “In Search of Ancient Astronauts”. Spring activities included our bridge-building contest, paper airplane contest, a UFO speaker, and our annual Spring field trip and picnic. —Mr. Messner £1 club de Sspauol Art Club Students showed an interest in organizing an Art Club, and in November it was established. The Club hopes to promote interest and extra-curricular activity in Art. The Club sponsored a sale of handmade ornaments just before Christmas, r —Mrs. Huber This year the Spanish Club was all “chicas”. In November, we attended the Folk Fair in Milwaukee. It was again a time for enjoying the foods, culture, and souvenirs of many lands. In December, the club presented the carols in Spanish for the school assembly.
