Present machines must be replaced and updated, we must provide more space; and if the interest is there, a Vo-Ag Course may again be offered. Rising enrollment will dictate a larger library, cafeteria, and shop. These plans depend partly upon other priorities in the district. The Board always appreciates constructive comments from our administration, faculty, and student council representatives. The dance began at 9:00 and all in attendance rocked under the spell and beat of the Rim-Brants. The scene in the gym, a beautifully decorated garden, was made complete as the Court of Honor and the Reigning Royalty danced to their theme, Precious and Few. Following the Grand March, the Queen, Leona Wellnitz was crowned by King Ron Beck. As the clock struck one, the last moments of the prom were savored; and in the minds of all who attended were the thoughts that surely, precious and few were the moments of 1972. 33 On October 7 the 1972 Homecoming dance was held. The dance began at 8:30, and everyone young and old danced to the music of the Rockets. They provided modern rhythms in varying tempos to please the dancers. At 10:00 p. m. the Grand March was held with King, Joe Wettstein crowning his Queen, Patty Scharschmidt. They led the court through decorations of an October scene complete with corn shocks and pumpkins. Multi-colored streamers provided a delightful atmosphere to entrance all comers. r l L w ■ i:1 •'!• [i'fj ii?' Colour My World From left to right: J. Lamonska.L. Wellnitz, D. Kottke, J. Retzleff, J. Ten Little Indians This year’s all-school production was of the well-known murder mystery, Ten Little Indians. It was very successful in all respects. The directors reported that the students involved worked hard and gained a real sense of participation and accomplishment out of their efforts. Especially admired by the audience were the lighting and sound effects portraying a storm. This program requires students to learn and perform many jobs of clerical and technical nature, from desk work to filing of catalog cards, book processing and reference aids to students. NEWSPAPER STAFF Like the yearbook, the newspaper is a reflection of the events, moods, and ideas of the students and the school. Unlike a yearbook, the newspaper comes out once a month and it only costs a dime. School-wide participation in the newspaper can truly make the Oakleaf” the students voice. Science Club Builds Calculators This year the Science Club had about 40 members. The highlight of this year was the purchase and assembly of Health-Kit electronic calculators. The school bought one and the Science Club paid for three at a cost of $120 each. Several minor problems (smoke, etc.) were encountered but eventually the calculators all worked. Most active in assembly were Jerry Fisher, Roy Schneider, A1 Geisthardt, Ken O'Laire, Steve Yantz, Mark Potratz, and Pat Flood. In the fall the club took a trip to Milwaukee to visit the Zoo, the Conservatory, and the War Memorial. In February the Club took a trip to Chicago to visit the Museum of Natural History and the Shedd Aquarium. The club also sponsored its annual Science Fair in February, and the winners participated in the State Science Fair at Marquette University. The successful year will be culminated with the annual club picnic on May 30, 1973. A Yearbook Seminar at Appleton was held in September to show the latest techniques in yearbook construction. In fall die real work of the yearbook staff began, after school, after supper and during vacations. This work consisted of choosing the theme, taking pictures, planning, typing, drawing, arranging pages and selling ads which totaled $850 in all. Selling ads reduced the student fee for the yearbook. This year the yearbook has new features, more pages, and more pictures at a reduced price. Patience and long hours of work are main ingredients for a successful yearbook. The staff appreciates your comments, as well as your compliments, on the yearbook so it can become more of a student body creation, as well as die staff's. Yearbook Staff 51 i « We Remember . . . In dual meets the Oaks were very successful, defeating Cambria and W. L. A. in landslides. In triangular meets we won one and placed second in another. In the tournaments we placed fourth in conference and then won the Ripon regional. We placed second at the Kohler sectional and tied for eighth at the State Meet. Peter Williams won the state long jump and Mike Stollfus placed fourth in the 100 yard dash. Steve Yantz also competed in the state meet, and Dave Domke was an outstanding competitor. 57 Cross Country The 1972 Cross Country season proved to be the most successful since the sport was introduced to OHS. Never finishing above sixth place in the Fly way Conference, the team finished thrid at the conference meet this year. This was accomplished with the minimum number of team members. Steve Yantz was the most valuable runner setting four course records, placing second at regionals, first at sectionals, and third at state in the WIAA tournament. The team consisted of: Steve Yantz, A1 Geisthardt, Randy Col-lien, Steve Rhode and Tim Krause. They represented OHS exceptionally well. I usually followed the team in my car during practice, with plenty of help in case of break-down. --Coach Hayes Golf Oakfield started its second season with the players at left, plus Bill Hollander and Dave Ogle. We finished the season in third place, a fine improvement. We also did well at the regional state tournament, coming in ahead of schools like Mayville and Cambell-sport. Bill Hollander was named OHS Golfer of the Year and received a Trophy. He, plus Dennis May hew and two sophomores, Preston McLean and Greg Baeten, earned letters for scoring in three-fourths of our meets. --Coach McLean Picture: Coach McLean, Bill Krueger, Dennis Mayhew, Greg Baeten, Preston McLean, Steve Rhode, Tim Krause. The team had a good base with several men who had wrestled previously and three veterans with excellent credentials to provide knowledge and leadership. As would be expected, we had many first year men on the team. As rookies always do, our performances in the early season were inconsistant, but as the season progressed we put it all together for a winning season and two very big dual meet victories. These, and his other fine qualities added up to a lesson in living for the students of Oakfield High, one that can add dignity to their lives, as it did to Otis Bennett's. Many Oakfield students will fondly remember the tall and kindly bus driver, Ted Krause, who for eleven years cheerfully transported our students safely to their destinations. Ted drove buses for twenty years. When he began driving for Oakfield in 1961 there were only three buses, compared to the fourteen operating now. Especially memorable were the occasions when he helped tiny first-graders find their bus, gently leading the way with his large hand enclosing the smaller one. 70 wmm LES AND PAULS’ RED OWL Where Shopping’s always a pleasure Les Koch Paul Parker Waupun, Wisconsin VIS JEWELRY Watch Repair and Jewelry 404 East Main Street -WATCH- US Waupun, Wisconsin DON J.
