Coach Allen Trushinsky Assistant Coach Mike Bonnett ACTIVITIES King Gary Junior Prom 1969 Queen Mary Kay “Love Is All Around” On Saturday evening, April 19, 1969 the Class of ‘70 held its Junior Prom. The gym doors were opened at 8:30 p.m. and many couples entered the decorated gym. Les Palmer’s band was set up in front of the stage. The gym was enclosed with twisted streamers over the walls and ceiling. The highlight of our decoration was a garden entered through a gazebo of fluffy white columns and multi-colored flowers. The garden was surrounded with hedges, and contained a fountain and outdoor furniture. The main event of the evening was the Grand March followed by the crowning of Queen Mary Kay Kolterman by King Gary Collien. The King and Queen danced to the theme song “Love Is All Around”. At 12:30 the dancers left, the doors were closed, and the scene of the 1969 prom was left in solitude. Gary Vande Berg and Lauri Towne, John Nolan and Sharon Beck, Jan Holzmann and Helen Nelson, King Gary Collien and Queen Mary Kay Kolterman, William Fuller and Martha Hartley, Mark Thrall and Lydia Burleton, Wayne Zunker and Karen Holz. Cheerleaders “A” Squad “B” Squad Vicki Gibson, Marilyn Pipping, Patty Ennis, Sue Seyfert, Patty Scharschmidt. Kris Vine Substitute Mark Thrall and Lydia Burleton, Jan Holzmann and Helen Nelson, Bill Fuller and Patty Toomey. Larry Seyfert and Martha Hartley, Jim Hall and Mary Kahlhamer, Lloyd Chapman and Linda Conway. Hal Draves and Lavinia Liegl, Dan Stafford and Ruth Jurgensmier, JoAnn Hanna and Jim Waldson. King John Queen Pam “Get Together” While a harvest moon lighted the brisk fall sky of October 4, Oak-field students and alumni gathered for the 1969 Homecoming Dance. At nine, the dancers moved gracefully on the floor to the music of “The Mint”, our band for the evening, as they provided modern rythmns in varying tempos to please both young and old. The theme song of our Homecoming, “Get Together” found our King, John Nolan, and his Queen, Pam Hanna, doing just that as they led off the Grand March at ten o’clock. The marchers moved through decorations of an October scene complete with corn shocks, gourds, and a scene of football goalposts. Colorful streamers provided a canopy over the dance floor. Of Mice and Men On September 20, John Steinbeck’s play, Of Mice and Men, was presented under the direction of Mrs. Brenner. This play was scheduled to be presented last spring, but had to be postponed because of Wally Kahlhamer’s broken nose. No accident prevented this year’s successful performance! It was appropriate that we won, since this was Mr. Baeten’s last year as football coach. As Mr. Toomey takes over, we congratulate you. Coach Baeten, on your many coaching accomplishments. On the basketball court we won our third consecutive Tri-County Championship, and went on to district, regional, and sectional tournaments. The results are as follows: DISTRICT: (Markesan) Oaks 68.
