“
Dedication We,the 1967 graduates of Oakfield High School, have a warm sentiment for the teachers who took part in helping us through our four years of high school. One teacher especially, we feel is worthy of our deepest respect. To this teacher, a man of understanding, determination, and sincerity, we have chosen to dedicate our 1967 annual. In his three years at Oakfield High School he has helped us more than we will ever realize. He has taught us our great heritage and our responsibilities to society. More important, he has taught us to understand ourselves better. We certainly know that these few words are inadequate in comparison to your dedicated service to us, but to you, Mr. Gruenwald, as a token of our gratitude and appreciation, we dedicate the 1967 OAK LEAVES, with confidence that you will enlighten the future of many more students. Joseph J. Schmitz has devoted his life to music. At the age of fifteen, he left Marytown, where he was born in 1887, to attend the Weldon School of Music in Chicago. He graduated in 1912 and accepted a position with the LaSalle Street Theatre. Knowledge of his superior musical ability became widespread and he received offers to play with the Minneapolis Symphony and John Phillip Sousa's Band. He returned to Fond du Lac in 1919 to play in the Military Band. From 1923 to 1955 he taught in the Fond du Lac School system. He gave private lessons and directed the Military Band, in addition to directing the senior and Junior high school bands. In 1934, the Chicago and North Western Railway employed him to play cornet solos with the Mader Band at the Chicago’s World Fair. He has been the director of the Oakfield Band for several years. In addition to directing the band, he gives eighteen private lessons a week at his home and at the Wisconsin Home for Women. The Oakfield High School students who have studied under Mr. Schmitz greatly appreciate and respect him. His pleasant smile and teasing words have made their four years at Oakfield High School more enjoyable. This is but a small token of our gratitude to this man who has taught many students a deep appreciation and enjoyment of music. We will never forget Mr. Schmitz, and may our best wishes go with him always. AdMiKiU'iaicOft Principal MR. EDWIN BAETEN School Superintendent MR. Actioitied From left to right: Jackie Chapman, Ann Schaefer, Pat Hanna, Kathy Burleton, Kay Seyfert, Mary Malterer, Queen Louise Randall, King Rick Osgood, Jim Paul, Wayne Binning, Tom Krull, Art Pahnke, Gene Pfalzgraf, Dan Conger MY BLUE HEAVEN On April 30, 1966, the doors to My Blue Heaven were opened. Eloquently placed around the floor were tables, decorated with blue and white streamers, and centered with white carnations. The mural gracious ly set the scene for a blue heaven, while angels gaily accented the medieval castle. A drawbridge led out from our castle, where at 10:30 p.m. the main event of the evening took place. The King, Richard Osgood, crowned his Queen, Louise Randall. After the crowning, the court proceeded in the grand march. Following the grand march, the court danced to the theme song My Blue Heaven, played by Don Sampson and his Orchestra. Beneath the stage was a garden of paradise, which was accented by pink swans. The side walls were adorned with angels, stars, and spiral letters, which outlined the names of the court. The nigh sky of blue twinkle lights and blue and white streamers led to the center of the night sky, where the traditional crystal ball hung. rt czwyn The 1966 Homecoming began on the evening of October 14th. A snake dance through the streets of Oakfield preceded the pep ralley which was held at the high school. A parade, consisting of the high school band, the grade school band, and various floats, was held the following morning. The G.A.A. float, titled Dial 0 for Victory, received first prize. The Seniors received second prize and the Sophomores received third prize. At 1:30, the Mighty Oaks met the Lomira Lions on their home field. Although the Oaks were defeated 12-0, they proved to be a very challenging opponent. That evening from 8:30 to 1:00, the Homecoming Dance was held in the high school gymnasium. The gym was decorated according to the theme, Moon River. Music was provided by the Lockwood Trio. At 10:30, King Art Pahnke crowned his Queen Pat Hanna. The crowning was followed by the Grand March.
