Major projects for the year will include hand-made clay bowls and ceramic dishes made from molds. During the second semester, copper enameling and ceramic tile will be worked with. In Industrial Arts, the boys will make several bird houses that will be placed about the school property next spring. OUR JUNIOR PROM The theme for the first prom held in our new gymnasium on April 24, was 'Blue Hawaii.” On the north wall was depicted a scene of a beautiful, dancing Hawaiian girl, upon the shores of a sandy beach, with violet-blue mountains at the horizon. Included in the scenery on the east side of the gym was a grass hut and beside the hut were placed water skis and surfing equipment. Palm trees placed on one side of the stage and a huge, fire-tipped volcano on the other, added to the picturesque scene. The Riponaires and their vocalist, a native born Hawaiian girl, provided lovely music the entire evening. The high light of the evening was at 10:30 p.m., when the Junior, Class President, Marie Uttendorfer crowned Betty Vander Galien as queen of the 1964 Junior Prom. Then King George and his queen led the court in the Grand March. Wednesday was athletes day when all the varsity football players could request girls to carry their books for them. Thursday night was the scene for a large bonfire prepared by the team. Preceding the game on Friday, a spectacular parade was held. Then at 3:00 P.M. the exciting game began which ended in a tie between Oakfield and Lomira. The score was 14-U4.. At 9:00P.M. parents, alumni and students proceeded to the beautifully decorated gym where they danced to the music of Don Sampson and his orchestra. Mrs. Bastian and Mrs. Demond collaborated in picking a double cast for the two performances. Mrs. Bastian and Mr. Schmitz chose the band to accompany the chorus. Sandy Perry - Charlene Christ! Burse - Charlene Kenny Blank - Gerald Mary Potratz - Hope Roberta McClain - Gloria Linda Sampson - Sally Judy Binning - Vicki Mike Kottke - Don Mary Ann Paul - Vicki Following is a snort synopsis of the story: Matilda, a widow in her early fifties, has turned part of her home into a teen center for the high school students in a small town. Because she has no children of her own, she has become the subtle adviser of all the teenagers. Don Barlow, the president of the senior class, is the one whom all the other students admire and of whom the most is expected. He is in love with Vicki Mathews, but has to meet her without the knowledge or approval of both their fathers who have forbidden their children to have anything to do with each other. The lives of Don and Vicki are further complicated by the fostering of a romance between Don and Charlene by Don's father. In the meantime, there is a song contest for high school students announced in a national magazine, and members of the teen club decide to enter. Gerald, an introvert who uses long words as a cover-up, is advised by Matilda to try to write a song too. He sees Charlene as she is moving into the house next to his and is inspired to write a song. Don, giving up to the pressures on him, tells his buddies that he is ouitting school and getting a job. This information gets back to Matilda who contacts the fathers of both Don and Vicki. She convinces them that they should bury the hatchet for the benefit of their children. The story ends happily with Don and Vicki back together again, Gerald bolstered by Charlene's interst when he wins the song contest, and Matilda triumphant over all.
