Oakfield High School-1906 OAKFIELD’S HISTORY In 1888 the Oakfield High School was organized with Charles Elkinton as its first principal. During the first years of operation,a three year course was offered to the high school students. It was not until 1903 that Oakfield added to the course of study, one more year, making it a four year high school. During the early years the Oakfield High School offered two courses of study, English and the Scientific. All students took the same subjects the first two years of high school. In their junior and senior years, the students selected from courses such as Commercial Law, Trigonometry, Physics, Botany, German, and others, giving each student an am- ple opportunity of securing a good high school education. From the beginning, up to the present time, the Oakfield High School has continued to grow. The curriculum has been enlarged; the teaching staff has increased. The students, 200 (1962-1963), comprise the largest enrollment in the school's history. Several building additions have been attached to the original school. With the projected enrollment to increase to better than three hundred high school students within the next five or six years, the ground work for a completely new Oakfield High School has been laid. The building is to be completed for the graduating class of 1961 .
