THE SENIOR CLASS OF OAKFIELD HIGH SCHOOL OAKFIELD, WIS. PRESENTS THE 196 3 OAKLEAF DEDICATION To Mrs. Mortenson, who did more for the math students of OHS than they shall ever realize we dedicate the 63 Oakleaf. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Seniors: You have completed twelve years of formal education. What use you make of it depends a great deal on you. It has been said, The most valuable result of education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you ought to do when it ought to be done, whether you have to do it or not. From now on you will have to make many decisions. When, where, how, and if you make these decisions will be your decision to make. I wish you all the success in the world. Mr. Breitkreutz Oakfield High School-1906 OAKFIELD’S HISTORY In 1888 the Oakfield High School was organized with Charles Elkinton as its first principal. During the first years of operation,a three year course was offered to the high school students. It was not until 1903 that Oakfield added to the course of study, one more year, making it a four year high school. During the early years the Oakfield High School offered two courses of study, English and the Scientific. All students took the same subjects the first two years of high school. In their junior and senior years, the students selected from courses such as Commercial Law, Trigonometry, Physics, Botany, German, and others, giving each student an am- ple opportunity of securing a good high school education. From the beginning, up to the present time, the Oakfield High School has continued to grow. The curriculum has been enlarged; the teaching staff has increased. The students, 200 (1962-1963), comprise the largest enrollment in the school's history. Several building additions have been attached to the original school. With the projected enrollment to increase to better than three hundred high school students within the next five or six years, the ground work for a completely new Oakfield High School has been laid. The building is to be completed for the graduating class of 1961 . DMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION L. H. The gym was decorated to the theme Some Enchanted Evening. The ceiling of the gym was decorated with pink and blue streamers In the center of the ceiling was a large crystal ball. Also from the ceiling hung gaily colored lanterns. The mural, beautifully drawn by the class, graciously covered one end of the gym. This brightly colored mural showed oriental buildings and shrines. Steps led up to the shrine where the Queen was crowned. The stage where Don Sampson and his Orchestra played was decorated with pink and blue streamers and fans. On the front of the stage was the theme Some Enchanted Evening . The punch stand was an oriental tea house. From here the girls served punch. In one corner of the gym was a water fountain. Cut flowers were floating in the water. Along side the fountain and across the stage were flowers. Next came tournament play starting with the Regional tournament (held at Markesan. Entering the tournament with great determination, the Oaks downed North Pond du Lac 65-5U on March 1, 1963. Returning the next night they defeated Rosendale, a highly rated team, 65-Ul thus winning the tournament and earning the right to advance and Imeet Rio in a one-night stand for the Sub-Sectional play-off, also |held at Markesan. Despite the fact that we had the most severe snow storm of the lyear, 250 loyal fans turned out--to see their team down a fine Rio I squad 68-53 on March 5. This won us the right to enter the Sectional meet for the second consecutive year. In Watertown on March 8, Oakfield met Beloit, one of the better I teams of the state. The players gave the game their best effort but were just not able to cope with the superior height of the fine Be-jloit team, and therefore bowed in defeat by a score of 89-71. However, being the never say die team that they are, the Oaks return-Ied the following night to win consolation honors by defeating a |tough Beaver Dam team by a score of 59-96. This concluded another great year for the Oakfield basketball team. The school will be losing four fine senior players: Larry Schaefer, John Canham, Tom Nolan, and Dick Krause. These boys have done a fine job for the last four years, and we would like to wish |them the best of luck in their future plans. It also goes without I saying that the coaches deserve unlimited praise for a great job well done.
