That buzzer rs loud' E5 pecrally when one ts so close to rt Now there are cues of surprrse as they go to thetr home rooms remembertng the htstory assrgn ment not done the algebra assrgnment not even started and the 5 000 word research report due today that s only half done' Those are the facts and nothrng but facts But I mustn t worry for I m Woody the lob by bulletrn board' Arleen Goodall 58 Thts essay and one wrrtten by Noella Cyr were among the wmners rn a Natronal Contest sponsored by the Royal Typewrrter Company WHAT OAKFIELD MEANS TO ME I drd not come to Oakfreld by way of the stork l1ke most boys and grrls do but I came on an evemng tram to become a Swal low And ever smce I ve been swallowed up rn the love and affectron of my famrly frrends and my communrty I guess I ve never really thought just why I like my com munrty But rt must be because rt s a com mumty of hard workrng honest people who want love homes educatlon and securlty just as I needed when I came to Oakfreld I can t see why my ltttle commun1ty hasn t offered everythtng that any typrcal Amerlcan communrty could offer whether North South or here rn New England Scenrcally Oakfreld nestled 1n a val ley surrounded by hrlls lakes mountams streams r1ch farrn land a backdrop of trees the wtndtng Matamwamkeag Rrver could have been and has been called the Lucerne of Marne Industrxally Oakfreld ts a rarlroad cen ter where most people are employees of the Bangor and Aroostook Rarlroad or earn then ltylng farmmg the r1ch lands surroundtng our town Soclally my commun1ty has gtven me all I could posstbly want I ve had four years of 4 H Club work where I learned to cook and sew I belong to Grange wrth my frlends where we see the beauty of Agriculture and learn many thrngs of the order Relrgrously my church has offered me all that I need As a llttle gtrl I attended the Sunday School and grew up sptrrtually I sang 1n the chotr wrth my frrends and I now teach a Sunday School class and strll enjoy the program Scholastxcally my schools have offered me the best standards rn educatron.
