The production of this ORACLE involves a tremendous amount of work of which only few people have a complete conception. Taking, developing, and printing pictures, collecting write-ups, gathering the advertisements, typing, proofreading, and making the layouts are only a few of the laborious tasks that must be completed. The twenty students and the advisors pictured above, along with the other students on the staff have completed this great task this year. As in any great production, there were many headaches, much rush work to be done, and seemingly impossible deadlines to meet. But, as usual, the O.A.C.S. students mastered the task! The ORACLE Staff wishes to express its gratitude to members of the student body who were not in the above picture, to the teachers, and to all others who have made the production of this yearbook possible by their cheerful and sacrificial cooperation. This gives me a fine opportunity to point out to you that the type of community in which you live is your obligation and responsibility. Your school is your immediate community. The kind of school citizenship that you practice advertises most effectively your community. Whether it is one that outsiders would like to be a part of or one they would prefer to shun is yours to determine. I urge you to accept the obligation of making your citizenship match the beauty and utility ot your new Junior and Senior High School. fee, Mr, George A Barber District Superintendent of Schools Administration Miss Marion Hegmun Mr. Robert L. The size of the chorus was ex- panded to 'IO3 members. They gave three concerts this year-a Thanksgiving Concert at the elementary school, a Christmas Concert, and a Spring Concert. They mastered many new songs this year, with Climbin' Up The Mountain being one of the most impressive. The chorus has truly enjoyed working under Mr. Zogaib, both in rehersal and in giving concerts. With government being an essential to a community, this year's Student Council has expertly governed the O.A.C.S. student body. Meeting on alternate Fridays in the student activity room, many ad- vances were made this year. Amendments were added to the Constitu- tion by a vote of the Council and students. Banners and booster but- tons were sold by the Council to raise money for pictures for the halls. Also, they sold pre-season and pre-game basketball tickets. This year the Council ioined the National Association of Student Councils, attended many County Council meetings, and attended a Western New York Area Student Council Meeting in Leroy. This year's Y.: progress was probably greater than any other year's but progress in the years ahead will be much greater. 43 Government By The People Oakleaf Staff 'L 'P 9 hr Back Row: Judith Unger, Norma Reitz, James Stevens, Duane Scroger, Richard Chugg, Lowell Marble, Lawrence Klotzbach, Frank Newton, Harley Ess, Donald Gray, Frank Skop, Carl Palmer, Raymond Zigrossi, Anthony Cusmano, James Rossney, Shirley Rademacker. We are very fortunate to have a large and beautiful library in our school in which to browse, study, or casually read a book of per- sonal choosing. Within our school community, interested senior high students volunteer to aid the librarian in promoting among the student body the daily effective use ot the library. Their assistance is required in the mechanical processing of the books and in the exercise of clerical duties at the imposing library desk. Often these students are asked by other stu- dents tor help in locating library material. This forced the team to practice in the evening from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. Because of the loss of 7 regulars from last year's squad, Coach Hamilton had to switch a few experienced linemen to the backfield. Many of the games were close and exciting, and the desire to win was displayed by every boy. To captain this year's team, the squad elected three Seniors-Don Gray, Jack Silvernail, and Pete Rosone. Nearly every backfield man that played scored this year, with Gerry Hale the leading scorer and Pete Rosone the leading ground gciner. .lack Silvernail handled the Q.B. duties in fine fashion for his first season at that post and connected with many passes to Sherwin Bowen, the leading pass receiver. Our new facilities provided for a great variety of sports being offered in our intramural program, thus enabling practically every boy in high school to participate in a sport which he enioyed. Basketball and volleyball were the most popu- lar sports in the intramural program. Much class rivalry was shown in the basketball games. A foul shooting contest was held for the boys not on the basketball team, and an elimination contest was held to determine which seven boys from the intra- mural group would represent O.A.C.S. in the county bowling tournament. Also held was a badminton tournament for high school boys. eel Senior High Girls' Intramurals 'A 'KQV is is gs ff fr' ,Q A H Back Row: Ida Paloucci, Priscilla Radko, Carol Davis, Marcia Ashton, Shirley Green, Lillian Scopano, Gloria Dean, Shirley Rademacker, Josephine Corbelli, Ann Francois, Donna Ross, Norma Reitz, Lorna Walker, Ann Lou Harding, Joan Nagorniak, Marlene Base, Carol Scroger, Sandra Heslor, Betty Base, Beverly Mills, Sylvia Matteson, Arlene Heslor, lrmo Ess. I For many months we waited earnestly. A Great Community Asset This Year O.A.C.S. was very fortunate in being the first public school in Genesee Coun- ty to have a swimming pool. This pool is 75 feet long and 35 feet wide, and ranges in depth from 3 feet to 10 feet. In the gym classes the swimmers are divided into swimmers and advanced swimmers. The beginners are taught the basic fundamentals in swimming, and the advanced swimmers are taught new strokes and diving fundamentals. Each student gets to swim once a week. There are also adult swimming classes held at night. Although it is too late to form a swimming team this year, we are looking forward to a successful team in the near future.
