It is the very mine where her father, as a young prospector, laid the foundation for his immense fortune. Although the mine had petered out, he had kept his interest for sentimental reasons. Having also inherited a great deal of her father's love of adventure, Cecily decides to visit the mine, which is situated in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. With three friends, Theodora Co1poyCMary Ann Lewisy, a temperamental guardian, Bertie Farnsworth fLeonard Bentsonj, an English detective, and Kaoro CHar1ey Mathiasj, an East Indian chauffeur, Cecily arrives at the mine. Peter fDenis Melbyj, her father's partner, who has been in charge throug the intervening years, appears and his incoherent replies convince them that he is demented. Then the excite- ment begins. Andrea CMary Jo Bakkenj, a dramatics teacher, and three of her pupils fConnie Meehl, Ethana Spear, and Vergene Moorej, having been lost on the way home from a dramatic festival, stop at the mine to ask for some hospitality. Tom fRoger Aunej and Nancy CGlenda Steinbachj Blaisdell, neighbors of Peter Philbrick, stop in to see who the company is. Tess fAnn Rasmussenj, Peter's daughter, appears and reveals the amazing fact that she and her mother have been held captives of two vicious crooks Uerry Stenstavold and Don Vellengaj. The conclusion of this hair-rasing mystery entailed the most incredible, and yet consistent, train of events and surprises ever gathered together for one evening's entertainment. The mystery is solved Suspense Whodunit? h Looking for someone? The Cast Madeline and Phil E l0R CLASS PLAY 0 You Trust Your Friend? While Mr. and Mrs. Meredith are out of town, their daughters, Kay 1Connie Meehlj and Judy fEthana Spearj, are left in the care of Bessie lNancy Titusj, the Meredith housekeeper. Unexpectedly, Madeline Ross fAnn Ras- mussenl, a distrubingly attractive girl from a nearby city, arrives for a visit. Both Kay and her chum, Lois Andrews fGrace Powersl, are uneasy as to how Madeline's charms will affect their boy friends, Steve fRussell Garlandj and Tom fLeonard Bentsonj. The school band, of which Steve is leader and Tom a member, is to give a concert at a neighboring town the same night. Kay, determined that the boys shall not meet Madeline, re- fuses to attend the concert, as it would be necessary to take along Madeline. Lois frames the excuse by telling Steve that Kay is to have a business interview with a certain Dudley Harvard Smith--a name Lois picks from a book. Steve is openly suspicious. In desperation Kay produces a perfectly strange man fl-larley Mathiasj whom she introduces as Mr. Dudley Harvard Smith. Miss Denny fMary Io Bakkenj, the high school history teacher, discloses the electrifying fact that Dudley Harvard Smith is a noted historian and that he has undoubtedly arrived to award Kay a prize for her essay on Americanism. In addition, Miss Denny announces that the band will can- cel their concert and will instead give a party at the Meredith home in honor of Mr. Smith. From this point the play is a riot of fun and action as Kay wildly attempts to keep Madeline out of sightg and events seem to prove that the strange man--who now refuses to leave the house--is an escaped lunatic . . . but he isn't! To add to the confusion, Madeline takes a liking to Phil Hunter Uerry Stenstavoldj, a bashful neighbor boy.
