BASKETBALL This year's basketball season went down in the books as the most success- ful in the history of the school. For the first time, an Oak Ridge High School hardwood quintet captured the Region ll crown and nailed clown a berth in the State Tournament, lt also won the Seventh District and Clinton lnvita- tional Tournaments. Three championship cups stand on the shelves of the trophy case as evidence ot the tearn's prowess. The cagers also wound up the regular season with the best record ever compiled by an Oak Ridge Basketball team, winning thirty games and dropping only two. Coach Ben Martin's charges iumped oft to o flying start, winning thirteen contests in succession before losing a decision to arch-rival Lake City. After their loss to the Lakers, the 'Cats bounced back to win their next eleven tussles, wrapping up their regular season's activities with o 24-l slate. The Wildcats took their second district championship in a row with wins over Tazewell, LaFollette, and Lake City, Victories over Knox Central, Everett, and Lake City earned the Wildcats the regional title and the coveted trip to the state meet. The season came to a close with a loss to Boones Creek in the state tourney. Leading the cagers were Captain George Dykes and Co-Captain Howie Moss. Dykes, Moss, and Nick Baker were picked for both the all-district and all-regional squads.
