Jack Horton, and faculty advisors, headed by Miss Eloise Dempsey. The Bulletin Board, upper right, and the Scrapbook Committee had the job of keeping us up-to-date on school affairs and keeping a record of the school's accomplish- ments, Chairmen were Susan Bowman and Karen Reynolds, Miss Anna Cebrat and Miss Ruth Frazier acted as advisers, Planning assemblies, right, and pre- senting them were among the duties of the Assembly Committee. Chairman Tommy Hardin and adviser Miss Margaret Barnes headed this group, The Ushers Committee, lower left, supervised seating in assemblies. Harry Conner was chairman, Mr Robert Roth acted as adviser.. The Public Relations Committee, lower right, among its other duties furthered courteous behavior in all phases of school activities under the leadership of Chairman Sammy Clinton and Adviser Miss Bernice Van Sickle. Melvin at the annual senior banquet in February.

Band Sponsor Joan Upchurch flashes a smile of en- couragement to the team. BAND DIUSIC E lncreasing its size with the addition of freshmen members, this year the Oak Ridge High School band represented and supported the school in both civic and school activities. Adding spirit to the football games, the band performed at seven home games and at two away games. For the student body, the band presented two assembly programs of concert music. Other concert programs presented by the band were the annual Spring Concert and commencement. While the freshmen members attended the Junior Clinic in Erwin, Tennessee, the other members of the band participated at the East Tennessee Instrumental Music Fes- tival at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, For civic benefits, the band marched in the Fire Prevention Parade and played for the Carbide Safety Contest. In the fall the band elected for its officers Charles Tedder, president, Terry Bolen, vice-president, Norma Ruble, secre- tary, and Jack Horton, treasurer. 30
