Now for a long Oak T9arlz to cheer our teams to victory. Here we have plenty of opportunity to develop our lungs and at the same time relieve our stuclious minds. p

Foster Senseney Lavicka Schwartz Sothras Graham Belzer SMUKING CUUNCIL Go get himf' says Dave Lavicka. In a few minutes Ed Belzer returns, bringing with him the latest offender against the school smoking rules. The room becomes quiet, casual conversation abruptly ceases, and the Smoking Council is in session. In the chair sits the culprit, around him in serious concentration sit the inquisitors. A few sharp and pointed questions to ascertain the facts, a few shamefaced or defiant answers, and the culprit is dismissed, to await the council's decision. Will it be nights,', the black-list, or will he escape with a sharp reprimand? A truly business-like group, this, operating alone, and without faculty advice. Have you noticed how little smoking there is around our school? Where thereis smoke, 1fbere's fre. Page 28

BUYS' ATHLETICS - FALL This fall our teams here at Oak Park were exceptionally good. We won three championships and tied for the other. Our heavyweight captain, Bob Schwartz, was elected co-captain of the all- state team. He was said to be one of the hardest driving and fastest backs ever developed at Oak Park. But of course one good man isn't enough to make a championship team and Bob wasn't the only good one. The line, from tackle to tackle, averaged about 195 pounds. It was the hardest hitting, fastest starting and charging line in the league. Windecker, the largest man on the team was not only able to play his tackle well enough to make the all-state team, but he also was the field general for the team. The combined efforts of the whole team resulted in the winning of the Suburban League Championship. The soccer team also set up a record to be proud of. Besides sweeping aside all league competition they took on some of the finest competition in the city, and came through with a victorious smile most of the time. As a recognition of their merit they were given one of six invitations to compete in the county tourney. The fellows kicked their way up to the semi-finals and then were eliminated by the team that eventually won the tournament. c This year for the first time the lightweight team competed against teams of their own weight. They played teams from all over the Chicago area and came through undefeated. The team was light and fast. Captain Hilker was especially good at opening holes in the line. Bob Beeby was especially good at tearing through those holes and making long runs down the field. The two ends, Johnny Sothras and Art Black were extra fast and able to dash down the field in record time to snatch passes. All in all, the whole team was able to run circles around their opponents and finish first in the race for the championship of che league. Our underclassmen weren't quite as fortunate as the other fall teams. They only tied for the championship. But they developed a number of good players for next yearis team, one of their main objects. Three championships and one tie for the honors! How is that for a record? Page 30
