St. Vincent realized, like every Catholic saint, that the great fundamental truth of the Christian religion is the Fatherhood of God, Who because He is Father, loves His divine Son, and in Him, all men. St. Vincent showed by words and example that men are bound to love one another with the same love with which God loves them, and if men will not love their brethren in jesus Christ neither do they love God. This was the truth that guided and inspired his life and that earned for him the glorious title of Patron Saint of all works of charity in the Catholic Church, which was conferred upon him by Pope Pius X. At the back of all modern philanthropy - work for children, the sick, prisoners - stands St. Vincent de Paul. 2
