Done in Italian mosaic, the beautiful escutcheon is a focal point of interest. Embraced by branches of oak lies a shield ot blue and silver. Below three rosettes surmounted by a gold cross on an eminence of gold, the shield is divided . . . on the right halftheletterMsurmounted by a golden crown appears on an azure field, on the left is a broken reed on a field of silver. The motto, DERELICTS MISERICORDIA, and the name of the order, SOEURS DE MISERICORDE, appear on the base. The gold ofthe shield signifies charity. The three rosettes express love united with charity in the work of mercy. Azure denotes the nobility of sentiment guiding the work. The M crowned with gold bespeaks the protection of Mary, and is the initial letter of the houses of Misericorde. The broken reed signifies the penitents who come to recover their innocence in a home of chastity, symbolized by the silver. Courage and strength of soul are symbolized by the oak branches. DEREUCTIS MISERICORDIA is literally translated as --tender pity for blighted souls. 4 'x sh?5a.5,i:x f i J.. Y , , . as 1 ' ff. -1- , . Monsignor olficiated at the ground breaking ceremonies for Misericor- dia Hall and since September 1961 has made his home in St. Rosalie Hall. .. . it vzmwesw Reverend john A. Dulficy, Chap- lain of Oak Park Hospital is a familiar figure to every student nurse. Devoted to the spiritual wel- fare of those who come into his care, Father is characterized by gene- rosity, kindness, and a hearty sense of humor. , I Sister Saint Therese is the Superi- or, Administrator of Oak Park Hospital. Mother Therese returned to Oak Park Hospital for her third admini- strative term in September, 1961. Her warm smile and kind, motherly attitude endear her to all who seek her assistance and counsel. She always has time to listen. U6 T' 'im Sister Saint Timothy was Director of the School of Nursing for 26 years, until january, 1959. Her ingenuity and perseverance in fund- raising played no little part in the realization of Misericordia Hall. Now, as Director of Nursing Service, her thoughtfulness and considera- tion lor patients is a perfect example for everyone to follow. Sister Saint Giselle, s. m., R. N., M. S., Director of the School of Nursing, has held this position since january, 1959. Sister's warm personality combined with deep understanding and sympathy have endeared her to students and faculty alike. Without her untiring efforts, the beauty and uniqueness of Misericordia Hall would never have been realized. Under her guidance and counseling, the school of nursing has progressed in the best tradition of nursing education. We entered Oak Park Hospital School of Nursing as fledgling nurses imbued with the desire to alleviate suffering and dedicated to our chosen profession. Classes were our guide to knowledge and we found that learning was listening, observing, reading, and thinking. The doing came after capping when we had more contact with patients . . . the feeling of responsibility contributing much to our sense of accomplishment. Class unity was strengthened as we worked on our class proiects and enioyed the social events which we sponsored. Memories of assignments, tests and the many tears of frustration are softened by the sound oflaughter and the comfort of com- panionship. Together, we realized that we must know the why and the how before we could become the nurse of our dreams. Z3 : QL a f rrr F lm I 4 Q-'N' W .:. ,J , vw- -fx -. X -l - 1 .5 i 4 He' ,, , ...L, . PLAUDITS We wish to acknowledge our gratitude to all those who have given so generously oftheir time and financial support to our venture, and without whose encouragement and understanding the ILITHYIAS could not have been realized. We think, too, that ILITHYIAS is the appropriate place to express our appreciation to those individuals and organizations through whose scholarship funds many of our students have been able to complete their education. And to the Doctors who have participated in the health service and assisted with the educational program, we acknowledge our indebtedness. Recognition is also due to Walinger Studios for the excellent pictorial protrayals and to Mr. Mann, of the King Company, for his invaluable counseling. Many of our introductions are from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. His beautiful verse so clearly phrases that which we feel sincerely, we can but quote once more .....,... Ot time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing. Yet the timeless in you is aware oflite's timelessness, And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing. 60 ' i: PATRONS Charles D. Rodenheber Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. French Lucille Miller 11-4 1' - - - --'- ,f A ' , . J ?
