Here in Oak Park, the Board of Education, the Ad- ministration and the Facnhy have phmned a school program that serves both the individual needs of every boy and every girl and the complex needs of the country. Throughout the land there is increased awareness of an urgent need to provide youth with an education that liberates the mind from ignorance and provides them with wholesome American phil- osophy of life and with the common knowledges and. skills every person should have, no matter what his vocation mav be. In our schools, the student is no mere receptacle wherein information can be stored. At every level he is expected to be an active learner, growing in his ability to think clearly and independ- endy and to act honesdy and sincerely. These are es- sential to educate for freedom and contribute to per- sonal satisfaction and social usefulness.
