Science Spells Progress With today ' s rapid scientific progress, the Oak Park science department has felt the need for expansion and further development. All experts in their par- ticular fields, the teachers combine friendliness and cooperation with serious instruction to form a good atmosphere for study. In addition to teaching the scientific method of observation and experimentation, they have the difficult job of conveying intricate and complex principles to the students. They dem- onstrate important basic ideas with advanced technical devices, and in labora- tory work the students actually see what they are studying. CARL JOHN KAMPMUELLER Eastern Micli. B.A., M.E., M.A. Languages Promote Understanding In our complex and expanding world, communication with people of other nations, and understanding their cultures and ideas, becomes increasingly valuable. In Oak Park ' s lang- uage classes, while learning to read and write a language, the students become acquainted with that country ' s customs and traditions, be it ancient Rome or modern France. The language teacher has the unique problem of intro- ducing a subject to the students, who are, in most cases, completely unfamiliar. The teacher must use many different kinds of teaching methods to present the subject matter effec- tively. As an aid to the teachers, the high school has a mod- ern language laboratory, equipped with individual booths, recording devices, earphones, and microphones. This allows the instructor to work individually with each student. LUCILE CORTRIGHT New York U. B.A. GEORGE GIANNETTI Wavne State U. M.A. ROBERT EUGENE TITUS Wayne State U. A.B., M.A. 15
