You work hard during these years. Then that special day, your graduation, finally arrives. Vith it comes the realization of what is yet to come. .As you don your cap and gown, you hegin to think about your high school years. Now they are over, yet, you have one souvenir that you can never lose, your memories. Remember the strange feeling of being the low man on the pole when you were a fresh- man? Do you remember thinking how you would never get through biology in your sopho- more year? Disecting a frog was really some- thing new. The next year you move into the magic circle of being an upperclassman. You begin to take a more serious outlook on life. Finally, you are a Senior. This is what you have been waiting for. Y ' ou ' ve made it. Then comes the senior parties, the senior class meetings, where you realize what a truly wonderful group of classmates you ' ve grown up with. Then, to crown it off. there is the senior prom, an un- forgettable evening, of fun. dancing, and remi- niscing. Now. it is 3ll over. But. not really, because we are prcsferving these memories on the following pages of this book. This vear, the theme of the 1961 REVOIR is THE KEY. It symbolizes looking back through your past and looking forward to your future. Vhat will tlfis forward look bring? That is up to vou as graduating seniors. YOU HOLD THE KEY. Marianne along with other exchange students vill tour the Eastern section of the United States. ■When she returns to Belgium, Marianne plans to enter the University of Brussels to study medicine. The juniors have sponsored two verv successful dances; Klub Kool . with a night- club atmosphere and the Sadie Hawkins Dance, held in January, 1961. where the girls had to do the asking to the delight of all the boys. On Mav 19, 1961 the most exciting moment arrived for all juniors with the start of the Junior Prom. It was one of the most beautiful dances ever held and was an excellent memory for all juniors to carry onto their senior and final vear. For the first time the vshole school partici- pated in an event which made this homecoming the best by far. The Varsity Cheerleaders and the Student Council joined forces and presented a pep rally. High- lighting the pep rally was the an- nouncement of the Homecoming Queen. The representatives of each grade were: Freshman, Joyce Gold; Sophomore, Marlene Verier; Junior, Pam Epstein: and Seniors Ann Beretsky. Gail Bilto, and Joyce Golden. Joyce Golden was chosen Queen. The bleachers were blazing with red and white, as each student did his part to cheer for the school and win the spirit jug for his class. Students participated in a city wide parade. They decorated their own cars and drove them through Oak Park. After the parade they packed the stadium and cheered wildly as Oak Park defeated Madison with an 18 to 14 victory. The Senior Class was awarded the spirit jug for their outstanding participation in Homecoming ac- tivities. These Seniors worked hard, decorating their car for the Homecoming; Rcd-gitrbcd sliidents tense Iv sat in the stands, await- inj the annoimfeinent of the 1960 Hoinecoriiing (|iieen and licr heauliful court. n he cheerleaders were overwhelmed by the heartv responses they received that da from the students in the stands, as they hiingrilv c ed the ' REn JIG in the middle of the g m floor, which later v ' otild be awarded to the class displaying the most school spirit. Follies 1960 The Follies, produced by Mr. Harold Habor and Mr. Hy She- bowich, combined talented Oak Park parents, teachers, and students to present a most entertaining pro- gram. The 31 acts were highlighted by the Siefer-We:ls Orchestra, a Hawaiian medley featuring Miss Teen Queen Connie Van Dyke, an all faculty act, and of course Oak Park ' s own Sadler Wells ballet. Arike Victor doesn ' t seem to mind being suirounded by Hawaiian beauties. Arella Barlev, Gail Bilto and Marcia Dicknian lend an air ot folk songs to the 1961 Follies. The various teams brought honors and acclaim to the school especially the basketball team which brought Oak Park its first basketball crown in the school ' s history. But the success of a contest is ineasured by a greater scale than that shown in the win-lost record. The tremendous crowds of cheering spectators at Oak Park sports events lend credit to the school ' s newfound interest and spirit. Football There were two bright s|)ots during the I9()0 season — the Cl;nvson game and the homecoming game against Madison. In hoth of tliese cnconnters, the Redskin eleven disphncd a strong desire to acliie e lrtory. and they were not denied. There were several factors that conlril)iitcd to onr de- feats, the most noteworthy being tlic loss of several key plavcrs at the be- ginning of the season, and the lack of ex|)ericiucd reserves. Many experienced wrestlers left because of graduation, after school jobs, or various other reasons. Coach Dick Walden was forced to rely mainly on inexperienced sophomores and juniors. The few experienced men this year were plagued by injuries to further Coach Walden ' s troubles. Next year, though, things look brighter for our matmen, as almost the whole team will be returning. The Redskins ' squad not only won its first Oakland B trophy bv sharing the title, but had its most successful season as yet witl II wins against 5 losses. The determined squad had a 3 and 2 league ' record before thev turned on the gas. They were not defeated again until Fitzgerald upset them 48-47. In this string of victories, there were important wins over such teams as Co- Champion Avondale, second place Troy, and stubborn Lake Orion. The team this year was led bv all conference seniors. Captain Steve Dressier, Steve Carpman, Dave Pink, and Di: e Stewart. Robliie Goldenberg and Dennis Pink also were starters and added great strength to the winning games. Gary C.utterman and A Rubv added fine bench strength. Balanced scoring was the key to success as Dressier, Carpman, Goldenberg, Pink, and Stewart all averaged in double figures — a distinction held bv few teams. Carpman, Goldenberg, and Pink also formed the strongest rebounding triangle in the league. Coach Paul Bovd feels this vcar was a success and is looking forivard to next year ' s team with great o)nimism, for if things go right.
