The student council co-ordinates extra-curricular activities, promotes school spirit, works for cooperation be- tween the students, faculty and administration and embodies the practice of democratic citizenship. With a new advisor, Mr. lames Beadle, the student council promoted a number of worthwhile activities during the 1959-60 school year. Among these were the sponsorship of the Homecoming pep rally and dance, and the Bermuda Hop and car wash to aid the American Field Service exchange student fund. They also operated the used bookstore and handled the elec- tion of council officers. Oak Park's student council holds membership in both the Oakland B Conference Student Council and the National Association of Student Councils. As the one organization that represents and speaks for all students, the student council is a vital segment of our school life. Magic in the Sound of Music Witches, Werewolves, beatniks and foreign exchange students provided themes for dances durinq the 1959-60 school year. Energetic Calc Parkers proved themselves imaginative ad- vertisers, farsighted planners and talented dec- orators as they sought to increase their treasury or, in the case of Norwegian Night, intro- duce exchange student Ann-Mari Ingebrigtsen and present the culture of her country. With Wood, paint, paper, glue, straw and plenty of imagination, they transformed the high school into everything from a witch's dungeon to Dogpatch U.S.A. Without exception, the dances increased school and class spirit. In addition, they pro- vided some of the most pleasant memories of the school year. yn- H , , Black cats set the mood for Barbara Gross and Ernie Sosnick. Folk dances among the fjords. Dancing the Norwegian way are Ann-Mari Inge- brigtsen, Leonard Tennenhouse, Linda Resnick, Ierry Young, Marianne Littmann, Bob Barris, Ioyce Radin and Larry Loewenthal. Due to our restricted time schedule the number of pep assemblies this past year was quite limited. Among those we did have, the pictured rally stands out as being particularly lively. It was in honor of our basketball team that was then riding the crest of three straight victories. Club initiations are also a rarity at Oak Park. The Varsity Club conducts the most color- ful initiation of any of our various organizations. Although it had talent and brawn, the prime reason for victory was teamwork. Head coach Norman Krawczak took a comparatively inexperi- enced group of boys and made them into a smooth-working foot- ball team. Under the excellent direction of assistant coach Iames Beadle, the line was molded into shape. This year's line was not only one of Oak Park's fastest but also one of the most aggressive. The Redskins baseball team, under Coach Bud loyce, enjoyed a fine season in spite of a rather dismal start. The team found itself after losing its first two games and finished second in the tough Oakland B conference. The season was highlighted by a victory over arch-rival Thurston.
