Truck Toilers '-A.. This year's Oak Park track team stacked up its finest record, winning two dual meets. The team also competed in three triangle meets, placing third in each, and in the State Regional Meet on May 11. From there, three Oak Parkers, Fredrick Minkow, Carl Leiter, and Stanley Shackman, went on to the state finals, May 18. In addition, the Redskins participated in two invit- ationals with Thurston and U of D High. Coach Paul Boyd says this about this year's team and record, There are always a few injuries to keep a team from full strength. -1. not Cross Cuuntry Cindermen Senior Mike Kaczander, one of Oak Park's most proficient runners, has had a cross country career filled with fine running. Third Row: Joel Nitzken, Arnold Weingarden, Leonard Tennenhouse, Errol Sweet, Richard Adams, Gary Pacer- nick, Howard Plotkin, Allen Ben, Sanford Math. 2 Added experience and a few newcomers enabled Oark Park's cross country team to top all its past records. They succeeded in attaining a 3-3 season, defeating Berkley, Detroit Lutheran, a.nd Orchard Lake St. Mary's while loosing to Thurston twice and Clarenceville. The team finished 7th in both the Albion and Clarenceville Invitational, 8th in the Thurston Invitational, and 9th in the State Regionals. The Cross Country team, made up mainly of sophomores, had a very successful year, says Coach Glenn Goerke, and even a more promising season is looked forward to in 1958. Letter winners for 1957 were Michael Kaczander, next year's captain James Dunn, Andrew Jackson, Gary Pacernick, Imre Quastler, Richard Adams, Sanford Math, and Joel Nitzken. been the Redskins' out- standing runner for three years. Mike will be missed very badly and his shoes will be difficult to fill. Hold- ing both the Oak Park school and course record of 10. 38.5 for the two mile distance, he has won medals for his placing 6th, 8th, and 13th in invitationals.
