Assemblies Spark Student Interest Providing a variety of entertainment for the students and faculty were the more than twenty assemblies held throughout the year. Assemblies brought an exciting atmosphere and a rest from studying. These assemblies varied in content, from the International Moron Societys' version of Miss Donut Queen to the United States Martial Art's demonstration of karate. The six pep assemblies held, led by each one of the varsity cheerleaders, were to honor the athletes at Oak Park. These assemblies contained humor, contests, and entertainment in pom pon, bannerette, gymnastics, and Oak Street Singers performances. Other special assemblies were music by Jim Grim and Elaine Moore from William Jewell College, the per formance of Fields during Earth Week, and the special performance of the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra. avi, Upper left, Conductor Frank Collura announces the Kansas City Phil- harmonic. 'f1,fw.-is ' ,, . ,- 419-fr-Q Y -l?j:,..,f5'f' was Obtaining counsel and advice, listening to the announcements, receiving mail, socializing, napping, hearing Student Council reports, attending class meetings, scheduling and pre-enrolling, eating breakfast, and having parties for every known holiday were how many of the students at Oak Park Spent approximately ten minutes in attendance every morning. This year a slight change was made in the attendance schedule. Every Monday third mod was eliminated, making attendance on Monday approximately thirty minutes long. The reason for this change was to make time for assemblies and class meetings. Many contests also took placeiamong the attendance classes, mainly in raising money for different charities. In raising money for the March of Dimes, Mr. Bill I-Iankins's attendance class raised the most money with a total of 551240, winning the first chance at cutting Dr. Dan Kahler's pants. Also, this year all of the attendance classes made Christmas stockings and stuffed them for the children at Children's Mercy Hospital.
