Dr. R. B. Doolin, Superintendent School Board Cpens Ed. Center The North Kansas City School Board was busy with many new programs. One of the more significant developments in the North Kansas City School District was the opening of the new Center for Educational Development. The ultimate objective ofthe center was to ad- vance the quality of the total teaching-learning environment through research, innovating, evaluation, and in-service development. Another important innovation was the pilot inservice program. During the second semester of the year graduate credit courses were offered in drug education, elementary reading, elementary music, and special pro- jects in elementary education. Inservice programs of this type enable the school district to ascertain the needs of its staff and to provide a flexible individualized ap- proach to professional growth and improve- ment.
