Superintendent me MR. HAROLD WILTSHIRE Seniors: Today, as you reflect on your achievements of the past four years and think ahead to the challenges of tomorrow, | would like to share a few thoughts with you. You will now move to assume new roles in a world that is awesome, fearful, demanding, yet ever so rewarding. It is a place where each day brings new opportunities and where each evening brings an end to the day — whether that day has been fulfilling, frustrating or traumatic. You will find that each day is different and each will be, in large measure, what you work to make It be. In Our society there is a dominant and everpresent element of competition, and persons are categorized into win- ners, second and third placers, and, of course, some are last. In your personal world, there is not this type of competi- tion. When you do your best you are a winner, and, when you know you have not done your best, you have lost. You are not the person you might have been. But even loss is temporary. Put the past behind you, begin again, and remember there is that within you which makes you unbeatable. Challenges are hurdles to be taken with the confidence of a champion, not barriers to be appr oached with apprehension. You are you. Just as there are no two fingerprints alike, there are no two per- sons alike. There is only one of you so why try to imitate others. Emerson wrote, ‘‘Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.’ Be you. Be the most you can. Be a winner to yourself and you will also be a winner in the world about you. But remember too, the finish is also a Starting line and the wisest mind has something more to learn. Take each today and make the most of it and don’t be afraid of tomorrow. Be proud of what you are. Be aware of what you can do and be confident in what you do. Be gracious as you work with those less fortunate than yourself. And always, be thankful for your whole self and understand your assets and limitations. Good luck to each of you as you leave OLCHS. | wish for you th determination to make the most of each day and | hope your personal successes will be many. ee 5M cLtabae 4) 21
