HAROLD WILTSHIRE 'SWyAWioem Ae la te)0] gem @re)|(-1e[—) M.A. — Northwestern University eel yee, 6 Seniors: As you leave OLCHS to assume new responsibilities, to enjoy new privileges and to take on new obligations, | would like to share a few thoughts with you. Just as four walls did not make the school, so also, bricks and buildings do not make com- panies, businesses, communities, and society in general. Rather, it is people who are essential and what they are, what they do, how they do it and how they interact make society what it is. You will find that life is not easy, no matter what your calling. Perhaps it ought to be, but it never has been and it is unlikely that it will ever be. However, life is challenging and can be very rewarding, and you have a great deal of control over what your life is. Each year — each day — brings more demands and fresh opportunities, and it is what you do with these oppor- tunities and how you meet these demands that will in large measure determine your satisfaction with your role and station in life. As you move out to fill your roles in society, as you leave a com- fortable and structured environment and move on to new found freedoms and uneasy uncertainties, be confident in yourself. Each of you has special talents and abilities which you must let grow and develop. Know yourself, respect yourself and respect the rights and privileges of others. Work hard always to become all that you are capable of becoming. Good luck to each of you as you leave OLCHS arid continue on the pathway of life. | wish you success in all your endeavors and | hope your dreams will be realized. ae oe Administration tet 4 —,. nem hs Catt cm ae gees ome . te 2 RR al sey Ge Hg + monn Pine fe . The club’s enrollment reached a record during the year — one out of every twelve students at the school. These students were in action in many ways; decorating a hallway with plants, planting unusual trees along Austin Avenue and supporting a bison at Brookfield zoo. The club’s most popular activities were the field trips. Ecology Club went ON THE ROAD by climbing Warren Dunes, bicycling Lake Michigan, going behind the scenes at Brookfield zoo, watching Bald Eagles along the Mississippi River, ski- ing, Canoeing, hot air ballooning, climbing mountains in the Tetons and the Smokies, rafting the Snake River, exploring caves in Ken- tucky and South Dakota. The club ended the year preparing for new discoveries within the swamps of Georgia and sailing the Atlantic Ocean. As Oak Lawn’s largest club and one of the biggest science activities in the State, 1982-83 was an exciting way to close a decade of experiences. ll Ecology Club Trips 1. In the Tetons. 2. Until you have been part of a yearbook staff, you cannot even begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into a project of this size.
