OUR HERITAGE When the official flag of our new nation was unfurled to float on the freedom-loving breezes of this land, thirteen radiant stars shone forth, proclaiming the glory of the thirteen states whose unity conceived a perfect whole. Now, less than two hundred years later, these thirteen stars have multiplied to fill thé blue with the luster of fifty stars, as Hawaii officially adds the rays of her star. With the addition of each new star, our country has grown in power and glory. So also Oak Lawn Community High School started with thirteen original stars: Adminis- tration, Board of Education, Faculty, Deans, Office Staff, Service Staff, Building, Sports, Activities, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Fresh- men. In as proportionately short a time, we too have multiplied these stars into fifty stars of organizations and catagories that add immeas- urably to our school as it is today. Our flagpole was donated by the Lynnwood Women's Club, and is maintained by them. Likewise, one flag is donated for it each year.

William Douglass EDUCATION DEDICATION Our very first star came into being ten years ago this past Novem- ber when the members of the first Board of Education of Oak Lawn Community High School undertook the responsibilities of establish- ing our school. During the past ten years the members of our boards, through their untiring efforts in coping with the countless problems attendant on our growth, have reflected the pride and interest of Oak Lawn in providing us with the opportunities for an outstanding education. On this our tenth anniversary, we dedicate this book to you, the members of our Board of Education, as a token of thanks for your time and energies expended on our behalf.
