E. Wetzel, superintendent. Upon his shoulders rests the responsibility of administering so complex an organi- zation as a modern high school. Mr. Wetzel's understanding of the administration of OLCHS has not occurred by mere chance, but rather by extensive training in the lield of education. After attending grammar school and high school in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, he attended the University of Illinois where he received his bachelor's degree and later his master's degrees in commerce and education. Always eager to be posted on the latest information and ideas in education and administration, Mr. Wetzel has also attended summer classes at Southern Illinois University. Having taught previously in Ashley and Casey, Illinois, and North Carolina and served as a civilian instructor in the armed services, Mr. Wetzel came to Oak Lawn during the school's first year of operation at which time he was assistant superintendent and also taught a course in commerce. Mr. Wetzel, whose two sisters and father are educators, comes from a family of teachers. He wed Maxine Logan in 1942 and they now make their home in Oak Lawn. To relax from his busy schedule, Mr. WVetzel turns to his hobby of music. He can play several instruments including the baritone and trombone. The responsibility of a school like Oak Lawn demands a man like Mr. Wetzel whose patient understanding of the needs and problems of the student body has won him a special place in the heart of that group. With hearty congratulations Mr. Wetzel, we dedicate the 1959 Shield to you! 3 Introduction New to OLCI-IS this year is Mr. E. Lynch, our assistant superintendent. By his genuine interest, sincere friendliness, and charming wit he has endeared himself to the students of Oak Lawn. As principal of New Berlin, Ancola, and Paris, Illinois, before coming to OLCHS, Mr. Lynch has experi- ence not only in administrative duties but also in student relations. Mr. Lynch, who has been married for seventeen years, is the father of three sons. Already he has become a special part of our school, and his comment about it I love it! is mutual. Administration Congratulations The new office of Administrative Assistant was added to the staff this year. Mr. Harold Wiltshire, who is a well-known member ofthe teaching staff and who has long been regarded as a fine mathematics instructor, was an ap- propriate choice for this newly-inaugurated position. Among the duties of this new post are those of business manager and coordinator of extra-curricular activities. 4 A -.1 ig 'wmff- H . . . They saw 350 tons of concrete loaded with another l00 tons of building materials lifted to a height of 33 feet by sixteen jacks. This is the new lift slab process by which the new addition is being erected at OLCHS. The sixteen hydraulic jacks lifted two floors and a roof firmly into place, which were poured on the level. Thus this radical building method was ofuwwh at Oak Lawn. fcont. p. 79j 3'I 0 Ox ff!!
