III was born in Talca, a city of Chile. It was through a program called Youth For Under- standing, that I came to the United States of America. I had always a desire to know in reality the life and ways of its people. All through my life I was puzzled about what I heard of America. On arriving and after living among its people I could realize that the image I had in mind was erroneous be- cause many of the advantages and comforts that people have here are also found in the many countries of the world. We Latins have different customs and the values of our culture cannot make us be cold or indifferent to people. When I return to my country I will remember all of you with fondness and taking with me an experience which has been very enriching to me. I cannot forget all the nice people who made my stay here very hospitable? J uan 23

AFS - EXCHANGE STUDENT ttSchool always gives us a double feeling about life: it seems to be endless; day after day, the same way, back and forth, then suddenly it seems that everything is over and it went so fast. I was exposed to so many different things in school here a schedule, subjects, rules a that it made a big change in the way I did things. But besides the academic aspect of school there are people, and people are basically the same whether in Oak Hills, this place all of you know, or in Juiz de Fora, my City in Brazil, somewhere you never heard about. The great challenge for me this year was to learn how to see people just as people, regardless of the different fac- ades they have; and Oak Hills made me realize that.
