CQSJ tjfsfory M1956 It was in the year of 1944 that we, the Senior Class of 1956, entered our first year of school. Mrs. Simms was our teacher. We liked her so well that we persuaded her to go up and teach us in the second grade. We lost Wyche Black- well, Lillian Ann Hayes, and Evelyn Puryear in the first grade. In the third grade we were beginning to learn how hard school really was. Mrs. Kirk Davis was our teacher. We gained one student, Shellie Nelson, and lost one, James Williams. Mrs. John Roy Williams was our teacher in the fourth grade. In this grade we began to realize that we had to dig a little deeper for what we would get. Gertrude Bagbey and Winn Vaughan joined us this year. It was in the fifth grade that we really had ro begin working. Mrs. J. H. Hart was our teacher. We lost four students, Frankie Newton, Elizabeth Adcock, George Crute and Adell Cox. As we entered the sixth grade we all were thinking of being half way through school. Mrs. John Hamilton was our teacher. Dorothy Cifers joined us this year. Our seventh year of school was filled with much studying. We all were looking forward to our trip to Raleigh. Mrs. Fred Lamp was our teacher. We lost Joan Compton and May Elliott this year. In the eighth grade we all were looking forward to going to Chapel Hill. Mr. Donald Johnson was our teacher. We gained three students, Janie Tingen, Glennis Boyd, and Dan Mangrum. We also lost one student, Horace Huff. Our ninth year of school was a thrill, because we were entering high schooll Our homeroom teacher for the first half was Mr. L. C. Adcock, and for the last half, Mrs. Bobbitt Jenkins. We gained two students, Tennie Melton and Edwin Yarbourgh, and lost one, Janie Tingen. The tenth year of school was filled with adventures and excitement, espec- ially being waitresses and entertaining for the Junior-Senior Banquet. Miss Marie Maness was our homeroom teacher. We gained Joe Lee Cottrell but lost Ruby Oaks. As we entered the eleventh grade we were thinking of all the things we had to do. Mrs. W. N. Stovall was our homeroom teacher! We gave our Junior Play Bashful Bertie. We enjoyed planning and giving the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. We gained Robert Lee Elliott and lost Edwin Yarbourgh. Now we have reached our goal line - the line which we all have dreamed and wished about for so long. Our advisor and homeroom teacher is Mrs. S. M. Watkins. We gave our Senior Play Desperate Ambrose in March. We all en- joyed the banquet the Juniors gave us. We were glad that Wyche Blackwell joined us this year. As old father time ticks away, the history of the class of '56 now fades. All the Senior Class wish to express their appreciation to the teachers, faculty members, and especially to our advisor, Mrs. S. M. Watkins. Without our wonderful, understanding teachers to guide us, it would have been impossible for us to reach our goal. We all will leave Oak Hill with high hopes to the future, and with expectations that our education will not stop here, but will go farther! It may be that we have erred on the side of restraint in writing this history. Therefore, we take the opportunity to say now that in our far from humble opin- ion, the class of 1956 is the most brilliant and attractive of any class known to history and will be always remembered by the faculty of the Oak Hill High School and the people as that wonderful class of 1956!
