ADCOCK Principal F-' dll CQSJ tjfsfory M1956 It was in the year of 1944 that we, the Senior Class of 1956, entered our first year of school. Mrs. Simms was our teacher. We liked her so well that we persuaded her to go up and teach us in the second grade. We lost Wyche Black- well, Lillian Ann Hayes, and Evelyn Puryear in the first grade. In the third grade we were beginning to learn how hard school really was. Mrs. Kirk Davis was our teacher. We gained one student, Shellie Nelson, and lost one, James Williams. Mrs. John Roy Williams was our teacher in the fourth grade. In this grade we began to realize that we had to dig a little deeper for what we would get. Gertrude Bagbey and Winn Vaughan joined us this year. It was in the fifth grade that we really had ro begin working. Mrs. J. H. Hart was our teacher. We lost four students, Frankie Newton, Elizabeth Adcock, George Crute and Adell Cox. As we entered the sixth grade we all were thinking of being half way through school. Mrs. John Hamilton was our teacher. Dorothy Cifers joined us this year. Our seventh year of school was filled with much studying. We all were looking forward to our trip to Raleigh. Mrs. Fred Lamp was our teacher. We lost Joan Compton and May Elliott this year. In the eighth grade we all were looking forward to going to Chapel Hill. Mr. Donald Johnson was our teacher. We gained three students, Janie Tingen, Glennis Boyd, and Dan Mangrum. We also lost one student, Horace Huff. Our ninth year of school was a thrill, because we were entering high schooll Our homeroom teacher for the first half was Mr. L. C. Adcock, and for the last half, Mrs. Bobbitt Jenkins. We gained two students, Tennie Melton and Edwin Yarbourgh, and lost one, Janie Tingen. The tenth year of school was filled with adventures and excitement, espec- ially being waitresses and entertaining for the Junior-Senior Banquet. Miss Marie Maness was our homeroom teacher. We gained Joe Lee Cottrell but lost Ruby Oaks. As we entered the eleventh grade we were thinking of all the things we had to do. Mrs. W. N. Stovall was our homeroom teacher! We gave our Junior Play Bashful Bertie. We enjoyed planning and giving the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. We gained Robert Lee Elliott and lost Edwin Yarbourgh. Now we have reached our goal line - the line which we all have dreamed and wished about for so long. Our advisor and homeroom teacher is Mrs. S. M. Watkins. We gave our Senior Play Desperate Ambrose in March. We all en- joyed the banquet the Juniors gave us. We were glad that Wyche Blackwell joined us this year. As old father time ticks away, the history of the class of '56 now fades. All the Senior Class wish to express their appreciation to the teachers, faculty members, and especially to our advisor, Mrs. S. M. Watkins. Without our wonderful, understanding teachers to guide us, it would have been impossible for us to reach our goal. We all will leave Oak Hill with high hopes to the future, and with expectations that our education will not stop here, but will go farther! It may be that we have erred on the side of restraint in writing this history. Therefore, we take the opportunity to say now that in our far from humble opin- ion, the class of 1956 is the most brilliant and attractive of any class known to history and will be always remembered by the faculty of the Oak Hill High School and the people as that wonderful class of 1956! Baby Mary Lyle 511531113 i 2 4 fjfe Szczfure gfffe Gkss 917956 Behold! What have we here? The ticking of a clock that foretells the future for the members of the graduating class of 1956. Now shall the mighty graduates shiver in their shoes as the clock tells the tales of brilliancy and honor. Whose name shines be- hind this luminous clock! I see a long room around the sides of which are seated many girls. It is a telephone office. And the head operator is Mary. I knew her as soon as she said, Lines busy. She always did like to talk a lot in school. Dan is captain of the star football team at the Cotton Bowl in Texas. He certainly is a ladies' man with those he -man shoulders. Then I saw a man dressed in brown. Wilbur had finally joined the army and is in France. Wonder if he ever gets K.P.? Well, Shellie has finally accomplished her ambition to become a newspaper re- porter. She has won the 35000.00 award for two years in succession for her Big Stories. I find Joel Chief Engineer of the DuPont Chemical Co. of Baltimore, Maryland. He hasn't changed one bit since his high school days except a trifle stouter. I saw Irvan the other day at The Annual World Fair in New York City. He was the top star in Dare Devil Races. Why, there is Glennis teaching Physical Education to the boys at U.C.L.A. in Los Angeles, California. She always was a tomboy in school. Herman was never very loud in class at school, but he has increased his motive for talking. He is the best news announcer on TV in Norfork, Virginia. I see Robert Lee has just caught a crook that robbed the National Bank. His chief gave him a promotion. He is now one of the top policemen in Germany. Wyche has finally become a great artist. His name is well known from shore to shore. His paintings and drawings hang in the great Art Museums of the world and his name goes down in history with other great artists. The vision of a church came to me and I saw a beautiful bride walking down the aisle. None other than Gertrude. I know she will make Billy a good wife. I see Joe Lee is a famous surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. I know he takes good care of his patients. Grover is owner and manager of the huge chain of restaurants known all over the world as the Eat and Run Restaurants. There goes G. W. and his wife Mary Lee. He must have a real good job, look at the mink coat she is wearing. Ruth is in Washington D.C. teaching Commerce in the largest high school there and is very busy sponsoring the Capitol Hi, the school newspaper. Since Milton Berle has retired, Tennie Lee has taken his place on television as top comedian. He is now known as Mr. Television by everyone in the United States. Winn's latest movie Jimbo's Last Stand, was the movie voted the best seller of the year. Winn is Hollywood's most raved about young actor. He is now making another great Tarzan movie in Africa since he was made the new Tarzan last month. I see Reid is a Broadway song writer and author of many popular hits. He is also a singer ranking along with Eddie Fisher. By now I guess you all wonder what the ticking of the clock holds in store for me. As it strikes the hour, it says that Mildred is with the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. Mildred Overton ' U Qasf anofyesfamenf We, the Senior Class of One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-Six, of Oak Hill High School, Granville, County, of the State of North Carolina having completed our pursuit of knowledge in school and wishing to distribute our various assets equally and accordingly, do hereby execute this last will and testament.
