CLASS HISTORY In early September 1943, we, the 1955 graduates began our journey through school. There were approximately forty scared students entering Mrs. Kate Burch's first grade this year. We had many new experiences under this patient, child-loving teacher. We learned the purpose of school during our second year. Miss Edna Averette, our teacher, helped us learn to like school better. Our third year of school was filled with much happiness. Mrs. Kirk Davis was our teacher. She helped us outgrow our baby ways and settle down to schoolwork. Mrs. John Roy Williams was our teacher in the fourth grade. We seemed to be gradually pushing forward with great progress. Although there was trouble in getting a teacher for our fifth year, we were led by Mrs. Eugene Puryear until Mrs. Jim Henry Hart came and took over. We were sorry to loose Howard Oliver from the first grade but were glad to have him join us again this year. We were glad to have another of our students join us, Mary Ann Elliott. ln the sixth grade Mrs. John Hamilton was our teacher. We lost many students but we were glad to have Joyce Seate join us. Mrs. Fred Lamp was our teacher during the seventh year. One exciting event happened this year - our class went to Raleigh, We were glad to receive Tom Woods into our class this year. During our eighth year in school, Mr. Donald Johnson taught us. All the students were happy at the thoughts of going to Chapel Hill this year. Jewell Rice joined us the last half of the year. Since we had been looking forward to being in high school, we were very proud to be called Freshmen. Mr. L.C. Adcock was our home room teacher. Miss Peggy Lips- comb was our English teacher. Two other new teachers came, Miss Marie Maness and Mr. B. J. Neal. During this year the following students joined us--Howard Jones, lewis Boyd, Alma Bray, and Waylon Champion. As the next year sprang upon us, we were named Sophomores. Miss Maness was our home room teacher. Since Mr. S. R, Murray died this year, we received a new teacher, Miss Ann Hester. We were proud to have Stuart Vaughan join us this year. When we reached the eleventh grade, we became knovxm as Juniors. We had a lot of excitement this year, including the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Junior Play, This Ghost Business. Alma Bray wasn't with us last year, but we were glad she decided to come back and join us again this year. As we approach this final step in our high school education, we look back at the many mistakes we have made. Although many have dropped from our class, we are proud of the ones who will receive their diplomas at Oak Hill. We are sorry to have lost three of our students this year--Howard Oliver, Leo Compton, and Joyce Seate. We are grateful to all the teachers that have helped us this year. The teachers are: Mr. B. J. Neal, Mrs. W. N, Stovall, Mrs. Bobbitt Jenkins, Miss Clelon McLaurin, Mr. Stuart Poole, Mrs. S, M, Watkins, our advisor, and Mr. L, C, Adcock, our principal. Our Senior Play, Cal1 Me Darling, was presented in March. We are looking for- ward to the Banquet in the spring which will be enjoyed by all. Our main events this year are publishing an annual and preparing for Class Day exercises and graduation. Now, the greatest moment of our life, the day of our graduation, which we will always remember, will soon be at hand. We, the Senior Class of 1955, appreciate the guidance that our teachers have given us. Although we leave dear old Oak.Hill High School, we shall never forget it. E Class Historian Josephine Overton

RET ROS PECT ION Now is the time when we must part To go our separate ways, There will always linger in every heart Recollections of our school days. We 've grown to love this schoolhouse here, Our classmates and our friends, Certainly we'll miss our teachers dear As our new life we begin. We each old our future in our palm, Those crossroads are in sight, If we think clearly and keep calm, We'll choose the road that's right. Some will watch each road sign As great opportunities call, A few will get lost and stay behind To stumble about and fall. No more shall we hear our class bell ring, For we are a class no longer, But whatever the future does bring We hope it will make us stronger. CLA SS PROPHEC Y Soon we shall know the future. In a thrice the veil shall be rent and we shall gaze upon the destinies of the members of the graduating class of 1955. What do I see for the future? Ah, now I see! I! In the fall of 1965 I see that the '55 graduates are very busy and happy. Isee MARIE CHAMPION zooming around over the world with Fleming while he tries to teach her to drive a jet. For Her pastime she keeps house at Henderson. I find that BRUCE has finally done it! Since he loved skating so much in high school, he is owner of the most famous skating rink in the United States. He travels about the world taking contestants to skating shows. Of course, they are winners! I IOSEPHINE OVERTON is seen on the stage wrestling against the world's most famous wrestler. I see that she is winner and she is also seen in many laughing shows competing against many other laughers. RICHARD is the manager of the race tracks at the World Fair. He has the ability to fight, so while he is not busy at the race tracks, he is seen in the boxing ring on most TV screens. In front of a group of small anxious students I see LOIS ANNE trying to keep them quiet. Other than teaching school, she cooks for her husband. Of course, you can guess what Isee WAYLON doing. He has finally found a girl to say I do. I also find him sailing around from place to place since he took up navy life. You can bet he takes his wife with him. LEWIS is seen outside the BOYD Construction Company in New Y0rk. He helps build anything from pa per airplanes to clay spitballs. Isee PAYE PITTARD standing beside a hospital bed with a needle in her hand. I wonder if she knows the difference between a sewing needle and a vaccination needle. If she doesn't, I hope she will soon leam to use a vaccination needle while nursing. Now, I see MARGARET ELLEN teaching school and on the side she is trying to find a man with a million bucks. As Isee it, she won't be making a living for herself much longer but will have a companion to work for her. HOWARD OLIVER was never very loud on class, but he has increased his motive for talking. Isee that he is radio announcer for a New York Broadcasting station. Ithink I see ALMA BRAY walking down the corrider at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In this case, she isn't looking for a man but waiting on them. MARY LEE is very successful. I see that she is working as editor of the Dorothy Dix Column in a well-known newspaper in Danville. She also travels about selling her papers. I see TOM sitting in the driver's seat of a Greyhound bus. If he can't get to drive his car where he wants to go, he carries a bus load of people, so he can go, too. JOYCE has met the man of her dreams out in Califomia while on vacation and you can guess the rest. She is still out there helping her husband pack fruit to be sent to Nelson. Since HOWARD had a voice for singing I see that he is ranking high in front of Perry Como. He has also found a movie star that he cared to spend the rest of his life with. I-Ioward's motto is Live, Love and Be Happy. I see MARY ANNE was lucky enough to get her a man. She and Floyd are living happily together. I see that IEWELL is married and her husband baby sits while she works as typist for a famous eye specialist. I also see that STUART has finally gotten the nerve to pop the question to the little girl of his dreams, whom he met in his early courting day. Well, since he asked the question, you know the rest. By now you might think I'm a fortune teller. But no! ll As the rest of the girls do, I have found the one and only and received my M, R. S, degree. Pauline West--Prophet
