The long-awaited consolidation plan is on the verge of reality. Many high school students had campaigned for consolidation and were overjoyed when three county commissioners finally pulled it through. Our sincere appreciation goes to Commissioners Bleynat, Harbison, and Hamer, and our best wishes for success to the new superintendent, Dr. Charles Weaver. John D. Bleynat Leighton W. Consolidation will mean the end of undesirable trailer classrooms and other inadequate structures. There will be room and equipment and educational facilities for everyone. Burke’s need for a revamping of its school system cannot be denied. Students at Oak Hill High are delighted to see the approaching end of an out-moded form of public schooling and are glad to know that the younger children in the county are assured of a better and more sophisticated process of education. The Oak Hill team led many statistics, one of them being the shot put. Alvin Kincaid made the fans yell with his last minute take-over in many races. The relay teams also provided much excitement with their last-minute surges that won several relays. These boys deserve a lot of credit for their work. Paul Hunter prepares to throw. This fine team was led by four seniors: Quarterback Mike Carlisle; Tackle Ralph Collette; Halfback Jimmy Allman; and Fullback Larry Parks. The Oak Hill line was made by: Center Kevin Carlisle; Guards Kenny Baker and Robert Avery; Tackles Ralph Collette and Paul Hunter; and Ends James Avery and John Avery. These boys did a great job. Besides having a fine line, the Oak Hill backfield was tremendous. Quarterbacking the team, Mike Carlisle found himself with three outstanding backs. Jimmy Allman led the team in rushing, scoring, and pass receptions. Larry Parks, the strongest runner on this team, loved to run low and inside while maintaining amazing balance. Earl Caldwell, who held down the remaining halfback position and placed second in rushing, was one of the fastest men on the team. They ' re very easily disciplined, with a lot of desire to win. A very proud bunch of young men, who have a ‘never say die’ attitude. These boys have a very unselfish team; all the starters have been high scorer at least once. After putting in some real hard Christmas practices, they came back and sacrificed all for the well-deserved season that they had. I cannot say enough about this group of young men. They are the very essence of coaching, not so much because of ability, but because of their team effort and their pride in Oak Hill, to sacrifice their time in order to give their best everytime they played — and they did.” Comments on Starters: RALPH COLLETTE — “Real good rebounder, quick.
