They have made our education possible. Through patience and under¬ standing they guided us through the first years of school. Later, they let us “try it on our own,” make our own mistakes, and find out what life is about. Still, they were always there to listen when our problems became too great for us. Now, as we are about to become independent adults, we want to express our love and thanks to them for everything they have done for us. We hope that we may make them proud of each of us. 2 3ln iHemorir of We, the 1969 annual staff, wish to extend our deepest sympathy for the loss of one whom we know would have helped make Oak Hill Community a better place in which to work and live. 3 ®able of Administration Mentors lluninrs j nphomores ifreshmen St. I igh 4 (fTmtteitts (Elementary Jiaborites ©rganiiattnns sports Aritbittes Ahbertisements 5 We, the class of 1969, dedicate this publication of BELLES MEMOIRES to the distinguished new member of our faculty, Mrs. Kay Poarch for her perpetuation of the ideals of higher education, for her encouragement of student progress and growth, and for her unselfishness in her work as teacher, advisor, and coach. ... (ileril Bartles (feather of the IJear We the members of the 1969 Annual Staff are proud to have chosen as Teacher of the 1 ear Mr. Cecil Bartles, Mr. Bartles is a devoted teacher whose main interest is his students. He does his best to teach his students all he can so that they may prepare themselves for the years to come. Mr. Bartles, better known as “Coach,” has devoted much of his own time to other activities. On the football field he is an inspiring coach leading his boys to many a victory. In the gym he does his best to aid the girls in a game. “Coach” also gives the boys on the track team an extra push which is needed to win an event. All the members of Oak Hill High School appreciate everything he has done for us. 1 hank you, Mr. Bartles, for your leadership and guidance and for all the time you have given us. 8 9 Ahmhw ation Militant 3f . Uni ton, Junior |Irinripal of ©afe Will School Our thanks go to a man who has sought to guide us through every day of our school career, a man who can turn up in unexpected places without any notice, and a man who, after being fully convinced, may be persuaded to say, “Yes, you can have the dance,” or, “We can have assembly first period Thursday easier than we can have it on Friday. Go ahead.” Always seen with his dog Frisky, he is never too busy to stop and tell an anecdote of his own school days. We are sincere in giving the “big man” our hearty thanks for making this another good year. The Oak Hill Students 12 A bark worse than his bite? Man’s best friend is his dog. 4 nhtt tl. Testators: Rhonda Coffey and Lois Piercy 50 5 Class |Jnipheqj We DOLORES ALLMAN and MARY HENSLEY are planning a trip to the moon in the year of 1989. We have rented the latest moon rocket to leave May 28th, the day we graduated in 1969. By the way, the trip only costs ten billion dollars. RICHARD YOUNG is our pilot, GARRY HOUSTON is our co-pilot, and TONI ROBINSON and RHONDA COFFEY are our airline stewardesses. They have filled us in on the information about our luxury trip. We have just stopped at the North Star Restaurant to eat breakfast. Here we see the waitresses LINDA ERVIN, MELINDA WILSON, BETTY SHUFFLER and CLARICA BOYCE who assure us that the Chief Chef, PAUL RUTHERFORD will serve us a delicious breakfast. While we are eating breakfast a line of beautiful girls, PEGGY LOWDERMILK, ' JOYCE MORRIS, LENA HARSHAW, KATHLEEN GANTT, and JOYCE MARTIN present us with a fashion show which we will never forget. Upon re-entering the ship and traveling only a short distance our pilot brings to our attention a race with big time drivers DARYL HAYNES, BOBBY ANNAS, BOBBY TRENT, and ROGER WEBB. Who are competing for The Moon Racer of the Year Award which includes a gold cup containing 500 billion dollars in cash. We’re sure Bobby Trent will find all kinds of things to do with the money since he did win the race. A few hours later we land on the moon and are greeted by Moon Maids SHARON BRADY, BARBARA WALL, MARGIE SMITH, and CAROLYN ERVIN who are accompanied by our old friends BILLY MULL, JERRY CUTHBERSON, SANDRA CRUMP, DINAH WHISNANT, and MARILYNN SILVER who now have a home and family here. As we tour the moon station we find ELAINE AUSTIN working at the service desk checking luggage. We take the latest Moon-A-Cab driven by BILLY LAMBERT to the hotel Half Moon. We hear on the Star-A-Phone that JOHNNY LOVEN has just become the father of his fourth set of quintuplets. Upon our arrival we are met by the friendly doormen ANDY CHAPMAN and KEITH ALLEY. They escort us to the desk where we find our old school mate BENNY STEWART now a hotel manager, who assures us that we will have the best room available. The bell-hops LARRY JOHNSON and GARY JOHNSON manage to get our luggage to the 60th floor. After refreshing ourselves we decide to get some lunch. While walking down Milky Way Lane we notice a flashing sign saying If you want a drink and music have both with RENEE BUSIC. Renee ' s string of go-go dancers VERNA DAVIS, LOIS PIERCY, BARBARA DULA, IRA PRITCHARD and BETTY KINCAID are really putting on a show for’ wide-eyed KEITH PUCKETT. Next we stop at a soda fountain to get a Zolar Cone where DENNIS KELLER, JOE COLLETTE, DIONNE CURTIS, RONALD CORPENING and BOBBY HILTON are having a crap game on the sidewalk. The owners of the fountain MARY ALICE COLEMAN and KENNETH ARNEY are calling the police to their rescue. When the police arrive we find that they are STANLEY JOHNSON, ROGER LANE, and TOMMY BENEFIELD who carry the crap players off to Satellite Jail. y 52 Sight-seeing half the night has tired us out completely so we are returning to our hotel and have run into SUSIE WRIGHT, TEDDY HENSLEY, SHEILA AVERY and FRANK GARDIN hurrying home before Frank ' s coach catches him out after his curfew hour. The next morning as we are about to leave we see a Cheese Cart coming down the Moon Strip. We hear our names called and turn around to see our friends GEARLD McLEAN and RALPH GRAGG with their helper JAMES CORPENING making us a large Cheese Cake to take on our voyage back home. We are suddenly swept off our feet by TOMMY WHISNANT and LARRY STAMEY who present us with a bouquet of roses and escort us to Bus No. 6 driven by WILLIAM WOODARD. After waving good-bye to all of our friends of the moon we are heading back to the good old earth.
