McCOY-McCoy has for four years play- ed a steady quality of football that has also been above the average playing. Al- though seldom Hashy Ernie has held his position in the line and repelled one charge right after an- other. And his great fighting spirit lyuu know he is Irishl has carried him through many hard-fought battles where a weaker and less con- sistent player would have given up. LIPARI - Little Foxy , that snappy little tackle because of his size could never get on the first team, but neverthe- less when a man was needed to take a log- ging lineman's posi- tion Sammy filled it to perfection. He is a consistent tack- ler and often gets them in the hadi- field. He is one of the men who for four years has given the coach no trouble be- cause of training rules. Sl-IUMATE - Be- cause of outside dif- ficulties in his first year at Oak Hill, Hub did not have a good opportunity to' play with the Red Devils but this year he made the line work to hold their positions. especially the ends. Next year we hope he will be at Oak Hill and hold- ing one of the Dosi- tions on the Varsity. H ll ,PAA 'l ' ,goal Pms 51 BOWLES- -Bowles is another veteran who has given Oak Hill :four years of clean, hard fighting football ability. which in his Senior year netted him a well de- served, and honorable position on the all- state team. Otto is one of the three men in our line who Coaches all over the state said was the irreatest defensive trio they had ever seen in action. GRAY - For two years Ray has been a member of the filihfinfl Red Devils, and during this, his second and last year. none of the bench warmers has given him a scare. Ray has been a steady, gun- Sllfleflt player. never mlfislflll' a frame or a Practice. Seldom did his opponents make H Iain through his side of the line. He has always kept in condition, and has never been injured in a srame. His is a true fighting spirit. DUNCAN- Though Edward has not play- ed football l o n g enouilh to make the Varsity. he made the ImPs team with ease. He constantly St0DlDed plays in the line and wa-Ls good on the offense which is proven by the num- ber of games they won, and the line was always there with their part of the fight. F0RBES4 Buddo is the flashy little quarter- back of the Imps who made such a sensational touchdown against our rivals, Mt. Hope. He is always ready for breaks of the game and takes advantage of them in such a way as to turn them into touchdowns. He can pass, kick, and receive, all with a degree of skill surprising for one of his size and ex- perience, but being a Senior he will have to leave us this year. REID- Sandy, as he is familiarly called by the fans, is that flashy little red headed boy who is one of the most elusive open field runners that Oak Hill has ever had. As a quarterback he is a field general all to him- self. He quarter-backed the Red Devils through a very stiff schedule and ran the team admirably well for one who has had but one year of coaching. He will be with us next year and we hope he will lead Oak Hill through a successful season. KESSLER - Cowboy, is the doggie Red Devil who slashed our oppo- nents' teams to ribbons, on his cutting: off-tackle plays. He played a heads- up game of football, and always took advantage of the breaks. He has given Oak Hill four good years of' his football ability and the future looks good for such a flashy half-back. PAGE 50 PAUL BACKUS-Paul is the Red Devils old head on football knowl- edge, and was always a valuable man in a pinch. He seemed to give the team more pep and drive immediately and invariably brought them out of the lurch. Paul is a good kicker, good pass- er, and is no mean adept at carrying the ball off any position. TERRY- Hoochy is the first Freshman of Oak Hill to receive hon- orable mention for an all-state position. He is speedy and his great punting ability has pulled the team out of many trying positions. Terry, though young: in the frame of football seems to play as a seasoned veter- an and to those wfho know him he is always furnishing some new trait of an athlete who has a great future ahead of him. BACKUS-The Red Devils have their share Jf red heads and Marty is one. He is no hot head. He probably has the best knowledge of football of any one on the squad, and coolly runs the team like the best of quarter-backs. Backus is one of the speediest men on the team and has natural ability in passing. kicking, and carrying the ball. Triple threats like he are re- ceived by coaches with irreat expectation of a winning team.
