Sue Amole, with her dainty ways, With Martin Backus is spending her days. Cowboy Kessler, true to his name, Has gone out west to win him some fame. Paul Backus, who is far from home, In Paul Whiteman's Orchestra plays the Saxophone. Frances Sutphin, alibrarian is she, Among her books as busy as a bee. Albert Fodor, fwe always called him Bugsl, Is now a great salesman of Oriental Rugs. A great surprise to all, was Homer Fitz- water, I-Ie fell in love with a girl, and chased her till he got'er. Bernard Flint loved a girl named Flossie, He doesn't love her now cause she's too bossy. Pud Frantz, although a timid little girl, Promised Cowboy she'd follow him to the end of the world. Ruth Perkins, Oh My! so studious is she- Has tagged to her name many a degree. Mattie Thompson, the wicked little thing, Searched for gold and found a wedding ring. Virgie Coleman, the most heartless of ' Hirts, To the surprise of all is washing shirts. Ruby Bishop still wears her grin And claims- red-hcaded boys her besetting . sin. Ruth Baumgartner in her heart still holds Love for that would-be-sheik, Otto Bowles. Lelia Alexander is a missionary in China, While Nellie Clatworthy has a home in - Carolina. Juanita Mills a nurse would be, But she married a seaman and now sails the sea. Harl Trump now lives in the sticks, What a shine he does cut with the wood- hicks! Ruby Blake, a dancer so gay, Lives in New York on the great White Way. Polly Drummond, how she sings like a lark, When she takes her kiddies to play in the park. Martha Meadows married a man named Baker, She wouldn't say yes so he just had to take her. Thoughts of Bill Bibb and Myrl Basham bring tears to my eyes, They long ago have left us for their home A in the skies. Famous in football is Ernie McCoy He's thought lots of and is a mighty good boy. Cecil Lindsay, with his shy ways and blushes, As a coach in a College gets all the rushes. Successful in business is Polly Long, She's famous in art but not in song. We all think Kat. Christian plays just grand, But it seems she just can't catch her a man. Olin Miller, the Pea Ridge Sheik, Is a traveling salesman and comes here once a week. Mabel Wooten, we all like her, Is a dealer in fine silks and fur. The day grows dreary- Of this verse you grow weary- My mind is a blank And the kids I must spank, So I close for this time With this last little rhyme: Folks, don't forget the class of '29, With our pep we can beat you any old time. Mills is class- ed with the widely known interference runner, Briton for Red Grange: and as Briton has helped Grange become idolized by all young football players, Pritch has figured immeasurably in mak- ing stars and all-state men at Oak Hill, by giving: them honor for winning: games. Such results can come only from xrood coach- ing. Good coaching: consist ot' a thorough knowledge plus the ability to demon- strate, and Forbes has the ability which he showed in the irames he played, HILL When Preacher won a position on the Oak Hill Varsity he showed the fans and students how hard a hill is to move, especially a live one and playin! in the line for the lied Devils as tackle. He outdid all the Coach's expectations and put ont a quality ol' football that put him in his opponents' hackfield on the defense and his man on his back on the ollense. P,-me 48 LINDSAY--That Goliath, center who won the all-state center position is one of the cleanest, hard Fighting football players that the state can boast. He shows an uncanny ability in figuring: out the plays of his opponents, and is riirht there to st0D them. For four years he has led the Red Devils in their attacks and by our record seems to have acquitted himself quite hon- orablyl COACH REZZONICO - During: the four years that Coach has been coaching athletics at Oak Hill. he has made from a squad of rather indifferent athletes his first year, a group of boys who like to train hard, and take coaching without grumbling. Under his tutelage the Red Devils have won more frames in all branches of sports. He has permanently es- tablished track and put Oak Hill on a level with other large Hixzh Schools in the state. With such ability as he has shown, and he seems to be acquiring more, Rez- zonico should become one of the state's leading coaches. FRISK-fFred Frisk, bel.- ter known as Michael, the boil merchant, has for four years been playing: a fine brand of football. consider- ing his handicap. It is hard to realize the condition in which Fred has been fight- ing but such was his spirit as to hang' on and he put up a good game for the Red Devils each time he played. SHUMATE When Shunie did not fall down he was one of the best all-round ends in the state. He is a good pass re- ceiver, and on tric.k plays he can really skirt those ends. On the defense it would be hard to find an equal to Earl for he czzn-aistently s t o p s plays around his end and not infrequently around the other side of center. Shurnate will be with the Red Devils next year and we hope he will get the all-state position he came so close to petting this year. WOOTEN Andy , is one of those tight- ini: Seniors who help- ed greatly in whip- ping the Valsity in' to shape for each conflict. He was point man for the Imps and gave his oppo- nents much concern by his shitty playing and knowledge of coming plays. WEATHERFORDH- Crump , who is considered the best looking man on the squad, is. says the coach, One of the best pass receivers in the state. His size. good nature. and readiness to take coaching: will in the future make him one of the best liked and knowinu football players on the Red Devils squad. PAGE 49 SNYDER an Snyder is one of fighting: Red Devils who suffered undoubtedly great pain from about f-ive boils in every game in which he partici- pated. Despite this serious evil contin- ually holdintr him hack, Snyder played some wonderful games of airxrresive. h e a d s - u p football. When in action he was always in the thick of the melee and because of his fortitude and uncom- plaininpx nature he has been chosen to captain the Red Devils in the first irame of '29. GIGLIA v - Because of sickness Giizlia did not get to play the full season, hut he was a reirular war horse while he did play. From the full- back position he plowed our opponents line up like a great tank. Line playimr is not his only good feature. He can place kick ixood distances. and throw pas-ses like bullets. Being only a Sophomore, Charles is in a fair way to make an exceptional player before he grad- ll3l.9S. BIBB In the hearts of the Red Devils there rests the memory of one who always put up a val- iant figrht. Bill's fiirht- ing spirit was the spirit of the true Red Devil who fights to the last of a game. never complaining but putting out all that he had to triumph over his opponent in a clean, hard, honor- able contest. Bill made his letter in the Mt. Hope game. and les than two weeks later. he carried it to his last resting place. F0RBES4 Buddo is the flashy little quarter- back of the Imps who made such a sensational touchdown against our rivals, Mt. Hope. He is always ready for breaks of the game and takes advantage of them in such a way as to turn them into touchdowns. He can pass, kick, and receive, all with a degree of skill surprising for one of his size and ex- perience, but being a Senior he will have to leave us this year. REID- Sandy, as he is familiarly called by the fans, is that flashy little red headed boy who is one of the most elusive open field runners that Oak Hill has ever had. As a quarterback he is a field general all to him- self. He quarter-backed the Red Devils through a very stiff schedule and ran the team admirably well for one who has had but one year of coaching. He will be with us next year and we hope he will lead Oak Hill through a successful season. KESSLER - Cowboy, is the doggie Red Devil who slashed our oppo- nents' teams to ribbons, on his cutting: off-tackle plays. He played a heads- up game of football, and always took advantage of the breaks. He has given Oak Hill four good years of' his football ability and the future looks good for such a flashy half-back. PAGE 50 PAUL BACKUS-Paul is the Red Devils old head on football knowl- edge, and was always a valuable man in a pinch. He seemed to give the team more pep and drive immediately and invariably brought them out of the lurch. Paul is a good kicker, good pass- er, and is no mean adept at carrying the ball off any position. TERRY- Hoochy is the first Freshman of Oak Hill to receive hon- orable mention for an all-state position. He is speedy and his great punting ability has pulled the team out of many trying positions. Terry, though young: in the frame of football seems to play as a seasoned veter- an and to those wfho know him he is always furnishing some new trait of an athlete who has a great future ahead of him. BACKUS-The Red Devils have their share Jf red heads and Marty is one. He is no hot head. He probably has the best knowledge of football of any one on the squad, and coolly runs the team like the best of quarter-backs. Backus is one of the speediest men on the team and has natural ability in passing. kicking, and carrying the ball. Triple threats like he are re- ceived by coaches with irreat expectation of a winning team. McCOY-McCoy has for four years play- ed a steady quality of football that has also been above the average playing. Al- though seldom Hashy Ernie has held his position in the line and repelled one charge right after an- other. And his great fighting spirit lyuu know he is Irishl has carried him through many hard-fought battles where a weaker and less con- sistent player would have given up. LIPARI - Little Foxy , that snappy little tackle because of his size could never get on the first team, but neverthe- less when a man was needed to take a log- ging lineman's posi- tion Sammy filled it to perfection. He is a consistent tack- ler and often gets them in the hadi- field. He is one of the men who for four years has given the coach no trouble be- cause of training rules. Sl-IUMATE - Be- cause of outside dif- ficulties in his first year at Oak Hill, Hub did not have a good opportunity to' play with the Red Devils but this year he made the line work to hold their positions. especially the ends. Next year we hope he will be at Oak Hill and hold- ing one of the Dosi- tions on the Varsity. H ll ,PAA 'l ' ,goal Pms 51 BOWLES- -Bowles is another veteran who has given Oak Hill :four years of clean, hard fighting football ability. which in his Senior year netted him a well de- served, and honorable position on the all- state team. Otto is one of the three men in our line who Coaches all over the state said was the irreatest defensive trio they had ever seen in action. GRAY - For two years Ray has been a member of the filihfinfl Red Devils, and during this, his second and last year. none of the bench warmers has given him a scare. Ray has been a steady, gun- Sllfleflt player. never mlfislflll' a frame or a Practice. Seldom did his opponents make H Iain through his side of the line. He has always kept in condition, and has never been injured in a srame. His is a true fighting spirit. DUNCAN- Though Edward has not play- ed football l o n g enouilh to make the Varsity. he made the ImPs team with ease. He constantly St0DlDed plays in the line and wa-Ls good on the offense which is proven by the num- ber of games they won, and the line was always there with their part of the fight.
