Charles Smith Interested students have the oppor- tunity to take a full four-year course in math. Algebra I, geometry, and advanced algebra compose the first three years. Two semesters of math, consisting of trigonometry and modern math are of- fered to the seniors. In modern math, a recent addition to our curriculum, the students learn by teaching each other. The teacher is there to give assistance when needed. A general math course is offered to those students not wishing to take alge- bra. Our language department con- sists of English, speech, college composition, Latin, and French. Because a sound background is important, English is a re- quired course for three years. Speech is offered to those students who desire to develop self-confidence and speaking ability through actual experience. College composition is de- signed to give college-bound stu- dents practice in the communi- cation skills through the use of creative writing. Through an intense study of foreign languages, the student learns to speak the language fluently and is made aware of the many English words that are de- rived from both the Latin and French words.
