h arbor ites 0 h ak arbor high school oak harbor, ohio to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Prologue.............. 4 Dedication............ 6 Seniors............... 8 Faculty...............28 Summer ...............38 Autumn................42 Winter................62 Spring................76 Advertisements......96 3 People are the principle force binding a school. We share each other’s emotions —laughter, tears, co- operation, and companion- ship. With each new season arrive new experiences and opportunities. The long hot summer brought beach parties, vaca- tions, and boating; and oc- casionally one may have seen some energetic soul engaged in an exhilarating tennis match. With the fun of sum- mer also came the appre- hension of the oncoming year, and the realization that for some of us it would be our last here at SOH. By the time theleaves had turned to shades of gold and flaming crimson, we were in the swing of a new school year. School spirit again en- gulfed us as we cheered our team on to victory. Chilly breezes turned into bitter winds, and winter was upon us. We enjoyed skating on glassy ice and the zesty zing of a snowball fight. Also with the bad weather came the battles with unshoveled walks and slippery roads to school. Winter frost thawed into blossoming springtime. Grass and dandelions speck- ed the landscape, and oc- casionally minds turned from books to thoughts of “beaus and belles” and the age-old sentiment of love. Now as the school year comes to a close we remi- nisce on those by-gone days and look to new horizons with hopes of happiness and success. And now, students of SOH, as you turn these pages of yesterday, re- member these people and memories and cherish them; for you, too, will someday cross the bay and be con- fronted by the vast ocean. board of education With high regard, we would like to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for your fine efforts in the successful operation of our school You, the Board of Education, have faithfully guided the students through their endeavors and have executed certain provisions for the benefit of the students. Therefore, we the class of 1965 wish to dedicate our Harbor Lites to you, the Salem-Oak Harbor Board of Education for your interest and dedicated service to the students of Salem-Oak Harbor High School. Mr. Leow Mr. Leow, the president of the school board, enjoys hunting, fishing, and ponies. At the present time Mr. Leow is engaged in farming. His philosophy is a most famous one, “Think Positive.” Mr. Mylander Mr. Mylander is a graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor. He enjoys golf and farming. His active participation in local and state politics have made him well-known to many people. Mr. Mylander is also noted for his hu- morous story telling. 6 Mr. Fuller Mr. Fuller, who is postmaster of the Oak Harbor post office, graduated from Bowling Green High School. Among his many hobbies he prefers golf and, of course, stamp col- lecting. His everyday philosophy is, “A man’s success depends on how he takes criticism.” Mr. Lockwood Mr. Lockwood, a graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor, is now employed at Erie Army De- pot. Among his very many interests, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf, Mr. Lock- wood’s philosophy is to just follow the Golden Rule. Mr. Norwine Mr. Norwine, whose philosophy is: “Let not the low descending sun view from thy hand no worthy action done,” is the execu- tive vice president, cashier, and secretary of the Oak Harbor State Bank. Among his many hobbies, his favorite is coin collecting. Mr. Scheuerman Mr. Scheuerman, who enjoys all sports, is a time keeper at the state garage. He graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School. Mr. Scheuerman, serves as clerk on the Board of Education. He also plans on retiring shortly. “Live and Let Live” is his famous everyday philosophy. 7 V We have crossed the bay, the ocean lies before us.” President Larry Clere Thomas William Knieriem “Curly” Paule Mackey Beverly Mae Stone “Bev” Margaret Bodi Christine Windnagel “Chris” Gary Greunke “Lefty” 10 Carol Reitler Bruce Radsick Victor Green “Greenie” Carol Almendinger “ Dinger” Karen Ann Wargowsky Sue Ann Van Atta “Suzie” Margie Graber “Grabes” Michael R.
